I picked up an old Camillus with a broken tip that I intend to repair. I am thinking about making it a warncliff or sheepsfoot because the clip would be to short to look right.
I haven't broken one myself. I have bought some old ones with broken tips. It's not hard to fix, really. (I have a WorkSharp) I enjoy picking up poor abused knives and reshaping the blades to something usable.
Oh yes, I just reprofile the blade and put a tip back on it. My toolbox knife is an older Buck 110 that has been reprofiled, its probably my most used knife.
No, but I come across a lot of knives with broken blades. Sometimes they're snapped just past the ricasso, which really makes me wonder what the owner was doing, particularly with something like a MOP-handled penknife.
Yep. I was maybe 12. I had a beloved Old Timer 33OT that I foolishly stuck into a board. Instead of gently rocking it out, i just grabbed and yanked. "Snap," went the tip. Luckily Dad had a Dremel and I was able to grind it into a pretty nice tip. I carried jack through high school and into my freshman year of college, when some piece of *%#+^~£€*¥* stole it from my dorm room.
You should definitely keep such a knife. I have more than a couple users which I picked up at yard sales or flea markets for a song which were great knives but had a broken tip.
I like to carry and use them while sharpening in such a way as to sweep the sharpened edge up towards a new tip. At the same time I'll be hitting the tip on the unsharpened side a few swipes on a grinder occasionally to bring it down to the new tip.
Never. As a kid I was in Cubscouts/Weblos and Boy-scouts. My father did not buy my scout knife until I graduated Weblos. I think that's the main reason I've always been careful with blades. I wanted that scout knife for so long and believe it or not..I'm 44 yrs old and still have it! Its been everywhere.PA,TX,AZ,CA,NC,Philippines,Korea and Japan...

I actually remember being taught how important it is to: "Take care of your scout knife". Our leaders were big on that. CD
Busted the tip off the clip of an Old Timer 44OT (hard to find now and pricey when you do) back as a young adult trying to pry a .22 LR slug out of a bit of tree bark. Snapped it right off and felt like a total fool. Felt a bit sick about it too. It was my only and always EDC.
Yes, my 8OT, back in '68, still remember that sick feeling too. Around '71, Dad gave me a Camillus Electrician and in '72 or so bought a SAK Champion with screwdrivers etc...no probs since.
I just gave my Grandson an old Camillus Electrician today.
