Have you ever cut yourself?

No, never. I have never, ever cut myself, not once in my life. A couple of my knives have jumped up and sliced me, though. All the knives' fault, not mine.

Haha, you really had me there with the first part. :D  ("WHAT? Never??  ")

Anyways, i can only remember one bad cut, with a victorinox. I was trying to get the plastic ring on a cola bottle off (back then, when cola bottles still where made of glass... so, ancient times. About 8 years ago i think.)
And.. i did one of the dumbest things i've ever did with a knife. Cutting straight into the direction of my thumb. Guess what, when i applied enough pressure the sak flew straight through the plastic... and through my thumbs soft flesh. Probably cut to the bone. Didn't even hurt the first minute or so, but then... daaamn. Didn't get any stitches, thinking back i probably should have. But that sak's tiny small (and at the time: clean) knife was really the next best thing to a scalpell, didn't leave any scars.

Other than that, i never really cut myself deeper than 1 cm.
Last time i cut myself with a knife's blade was my enduras blade. I was weeping it off with my t-shirt, pressing the t-shirt on the blade and pulling it through... "Huh why's the blade red now? Ooops."
Last time i cut myself with a knife was also my endura... just passed it from my left to my right hand again and again, opening and closing it to get used to the thumbhole. Noticed the edges are still slightly rough and i had a small thumbhole sized cut. Not enough to draw blood, but enough to get me to smooth 'em off with a file.
The Last time i cut myself... was just yesterday, with a 10 bucks ebay queue. How in hells name can someone cut himself with a queue you ask?
Well, theres some metal in the midsection, where you put the 2 parts of the queue together. Eh. Totally unexpected. At least it didn't draw blood.

Thinking back, i rarely cut myself with a knife and when i did it rarely draw blood. I probably cut myself way more often with paper and such.

Worst cut of someone i know, would have to be my kali instructor... he stored a (apparently unsheated) machete on top of a wardrobe... reached up to get something... and it came flying down.

Few days i posted this thread with the story of a tiny cut from a Opinel. Well.......today i had to do it right! Was playing with my BK7 and some wood. Was pushing the knife though the wood on the most stupid way. The wood split but there was still enough force behind the Becker to cut my hand till the bone!!!

It was a nice clean cut, the knife was just convex sharpened and shaving sharp so pushed trough the flesh easy. The result was a 3cm/1 1/4inch cut bone deep. If there was no bone I’m sure it would be a lot bigger.

While stitching the doctor told my I was very lucky that I didn’t cut any nerves, veins, muscle or tendon, also was the bone as good as not-damaged (although she could see where I hit the bone). No lost of function at all! But it hurts like my hand is cut and broken on the same time/spot.

Have to say it was my quickest emergency-room visit ever. After (only!!) 3 stitches and 45 minutes I was already on my way home.

Here are some pictures just after my stupid action, I will post one with the stitches later.

Not to the point where I've needed stitches, or you could see the bone, or anything like that. My cuts are always "flesh wounds", a little cleaning and a band-aid almost always do the trick.

Here, just yesterday I dropped my knife and sliced my pinky.

Nasty cut! Thankfully nothing bad came of it. Chicks dig scars:cool: :D .

I fried of mine did something very similar on the outside of his thumb joint. He hit the bone severing a vein which in hindsite was cool. He could fee his pulse in his hand:p . When you have that sort of cut on a joint it sucks since they have to splint it.

The worst cuts I've had were not from knives but other types of blades. Once with an X-Acto that snapped because I was using too much force on it and stabbed my thumb into the broken off piece. Another time I cut the tip of my finger pretty deep on a safety razor blade.
The only time I cut myself with a knife is when I'm not giving enough attention when cleaning kitchen knives. In fact I nipped myself yesterday with my Evo paring knife as I was trying to clean off wax from some very tasty Vermont cheddar.

I no longer use X-acto or any other such blades, too fragile. I now use an Opinel #8 for all precision cutting. :) Much safer and cuts just as clean.

Maquahuitl and Pietje010, interesting pictures of your....Cuts. Pardon my question, but I've got to ask. How many people actually run to get a camera when they cut themselves with a knife? I can understand taking pictures of an injury after it's been treated, but running to take pictures of a freshly opened wound? I don't know about you guys, but running to find a camera is the furthest thing from my mind if I've a gaping wound that needs to be treated.

LOL...well those people how are a lil twisted I think!!!!:D;)

No I will be serious. I took the picture when most of the bleeding was already stopped and I did some ‘tests’ that there was no lost of movement (indicating a more serious injury). I always stay calm in this kind of situations, know what to do and what not.

Also I was in the good hands of my younger brother (a trained fireman with a first-aid diploma) and with the knowledge there is a hospital nearby....why not take a picture!?

Taking a picture when you are in panic, having a more serious injury/bleeding like a pig and alone in a remote part of the world...that would be twisted!

Small cuts here and there. The ones I remember are...

1. Opening one of my Spydies and my thumb slipped off the hole and it came down on the meaty part of my thumb/hand and cut into it. Not too bad a cut except it wouldn't stop bleeding and this was during the photo session with my wife before our marriage. This event also steered me away from most hole-opens as my thumb doesn't engage as positively in a thumb-hole as it does on a thumb-stud or disk.

2. Playing with a butterfly knife I had just gotten and cut myself the first day I got it as my fingers grabbed the knife before the handle came down over the blade...oops, a bit over-zealous I guess.

3. Playing with a butterfly knife again (different one) and dropped it on my big toe. Tip went into the crack where the side of my toe nail meets my skin and put a hole...that kinda hurt, but I was surprised it didn't do much damage since I dropped it from a good 4ft and the tip is sharp.

My wife has a tendency to cut herself on the kitchen knives and the cuts are often worse than mine.

Surprisingly, I've only very shallowly nicked the edge of my thumb with the tip of my SAK. It happened twice, both times I was sharpening my SAK with one of those small Lansky diamond stones while holding it in my hand. Both times the nick barely bled at all and healed up in a day.

No other cuts so far.

A day after…

Heeling nice! It’s a nice straight cut but I must stay dry so I cant clean it properly.

Btw for those how wanne know: the BK7 is fine also, only some light corrosion on the edge ;)

I make car frames for a living this is not a knife story but a cut story none the less, These parts are sharper than any knife you will encouter in most cases due to them being stamped out in a press a leaving a microscopic burr on them, well a guy was stacking parts , mind you we wear 3 layers of kevlar on our hands and forearms for protection, well guy was stacking parts, I told him "hey buddy those parts are too high stop stacking them, and he didn't listen , next thing I hear is metal hitting concrete and a blood curdling scream, the parts came down and on him and clipped the end of his nose off, he rushed to our in house hospital, while i searched for the tip of his nose, which was still attached to the part that cut it off...As far as being cut by knives go with me gosh I could write a book starting at 5 years old to probably 2 weeks ago, thanks to Bladeforums half the time I don't even know I'm cut I'll just be sitting there and then finally fell pain and look down to see a small river of blood in the floor from where I've been gushing blood for 5 minutes but never felt a thing because the knife was so sharp.:D I know it's sick and twisted to say but It's pretty cool to have a knife so sharp you never feel it cut you, until minutes later.
