Cliff destroyed a Fehrman with just chopping,

First strike was not destroyed while plain simple chopping.
Take loo at this:

I was batoning through knots, chisel cutting specifically when the edge bent, this is many times more demanding than chopping. It is also quite open for debate on if it is sensible to do with a knife because in general you would never do it with a splitting axe for example. I do it as a worse case senario in reviews, simulating when either due to stress, inexperience, or just lack of light you don't place the blade properly in the wood and thus end up trying to section a knot.

I'll add I have done this exact same thing many times with my SHBM. It also matters what type of wood. I have also done it with a battlerat with no problems. Not as many times though.

I saw that Esee pic before, I think the guy was carving a feather stick.

:D

Way back before 2006, before finding the Blade Forums, had some El Cheapos break on me, then fixed for the learning experience. The brand name knives never broke in my hands, aways in someone else's when lending it to them.

It is somehow the opposite end that breaks most of the time: not the tang, no matter full or "partial".
Though there might be something out there that I simply do not know!

I know that Jesus will be resurrected, but I never heard about the second coming of a thread from 2006! Is this a record?

And how do you break an ESSEE like that carving feather sticks? lol

Don't think it's a record, but they can be fun as spotting Deer. :D

Nope. But skeptic that I can be, I brutalized a few. Beat the crap out of a Mora Companion, Becker BK-2 and three different ESEE's out of curiosity. They are all fine.

As 555 mentioned, I too had a knife break back in 2006. I survived to tell the tale but the knife sadly did not... :D

Seriously though, I've only had one knife break by accident, as in I wasn't trying to push the limits with it. It was a kabar fighter - snapped right at the guard when I hit the back of the blade on a wood packing crate. It wasn't even a hard hit as it barely dented the wood. Must've just been a fluke.

I broke a Cold Steel Kobun trying to break up a pallet by batoning. It may have been considered abuse, but I was still surprised. I broke the tip off a Rat 7, but I think it had heat treat problems (it was warped bad. Ontario was cool about it though)

An older pic of my broken kabar fighter; reborn by welding the guard, chunk of blade that snapped and handle back together to one solid piece:

It's held up to a lot of use and abuse since the "fix"...

I took a sizable chunk from the blade of a RATK bashing it through a petrified piece of fatwood.
I sent it to Ontario and had a new one in my hands in less than a week no questions asked.
Great customer service.
