Have you ever stopped liking knives?

Have you ever lost enthusiasm in liking knives?,,,.
I tend to think that enthusiasm is a positive indicator of having strong goals.
And when one looses interest in something in which he/ she holds dear,
I imagine something newer and better has come into their lives to replace that top spot.
It would be tragic to to have to turn away from an interest because of a lack of money.
For instance, not everyone can own status symbols
But there is no lack of interest in them for those who can never afford them.
I would instead advocate a continuation of these dreams and set goals
In order to fulfill all wishes of material goods.
Never mind if it is never attained,
The entire purpose of hope
is to work towards goals in the long run.
And die happy knowing that you did your best trying.
A healthy interest is kept alive and fully appreciated
When it is continually fueled by deep product knowledge.
Any hiatus will leave gaps not easily filled in an instant.
Keep the faith!

Wow, some really great stories gentlemen.... Some of you have been through some tough stuff. I'm glad you came back to blades though. We always do! Everybody needs a hiatus now and then. Like has been said many times in this thread, hobbies do come and go in cycles. Waxing and waning with our ever changing interests. Ah, such is life.

Sometimes I can go YEARS without buying a new knife. But I still carry and use one daily! There for about 5 years, I thought I had all my needs covered. Didn't buy a thing. I got bit by the trading bug again and was right back into it.

I think I'm getting to the point now where I've got all I need again. I am much more selective now. I think I'm about covered. I think....... God help us all!

Been having knives so long, just needing a few. Expensive hobby. It more what you need than want. Gary

Hi everyone, I am new to this forum.
I've had my first knife when I was 10, it was a wilkinson type D. Since then, I've been buying whenever I can afford.
It has been an on-off affair all these while. I started buying commercially available ones, then lost the novelty. Next went for limited edition ones, then to hand made ones.
Nowadays I only buy antique Japanese swords from Edo or earlier periods.
In short, never lost interest but more selective in my acquitisions.

How many of us have actually thought "man, I should really stop liking knives *this* much!"? :)

I have gotten my little collection down to what I like. I'm pretty good for now. I might sell off a few Hinderer and CRK duplicates, but other than that, I'm at a point where I could slow the heck down on knives. It's kind of a good feeling.

Like others here, there have been times when life's challanges have caused me to lose interest temporarily in my hobbies. I had some trauma in my personal life last year which made the world go black for a while. I didn't even carry a knife for a couple of months. But slowly things got back to normal and here I am again on BladeForums and loving my little collection again, carrying and sharpening and feeling quite priviledged to have this interest.

No, but I stopped liking my hammer for awhile. I found a new appreciation for it the next time I needed to drive in a nail though.

Maybe when I fall asleep.

But I have been known to dream about a knife or two, so maybe not.

I wouldn't say stopped liking knives but certainly other things take priority over knives like my health, paying bills, and taking care of family.

My interest level comes and goes (often dependent on my finances and what's going on with my other hobbies), but even at its lowest levels I still browse the forums at least once a day. I haven't been really into knives for all that long though, barely over two years now.

Here is another way of looking at this question : I wasn't really that enthusiastic about knives until around a decade ago. Perhaps this is owing to my limited exposure to fairly run of the mill models such as Swiss Army and Buck in stores. And the Kershaw Leek and Mini Griptillian that I acquired around 8 years ago didn't stoke my interest. Frankly, I didn't find these knives that inspiring. However, my more recent exposure to Spyderco models such as Manix 2 and PM 2 has piqued my interest in knives. Also, the larger size of these folders seems to have interested me more...

I'm not sure how much my interest will increase over the years, but then again, I doubt that it will fall off to the level of the pre- Manix 2 years !

I guess that I should have elaborated on this more by adding that it is the tactical aspect of knives that really seems to interest me...

I have only been into the hobby for about a year now. A few months ago, due to vertical play and having to maintain my knives (oil, clean etc.) i wondered if I wanted to keep it going. I'm glad I did, but I'm still upset about my PM2 and Griptilian having vertical play.

Stop liking knives...??? That's a very weird though to me, knives have been a big part of my life since single digits. I'm not a collector, but have quite a few, all but a very few users.
At no point in my life, even when vigourously persuing other interests, did i not have a hand in the knife game one way or another- training, making, using, research, design, ect.

Knives are such a basic day to day need , i can't image my interest waning. Maybe from a TYPE of knife to another ( Bowies, ALWAYS a constant), but the only times i have not used/carried knives were the 3 months of boot where they would not let me.

Its not a hobby, its a lifestyle, as exersize and martial arts.
