Have you ever turned around for a knife?

It was not the first time, but this morning I literally made a u turn 1mi from my house to go fetch my EDC. I probably have 2 folders in my office desk drawer and a key chain knife, but non that I EDC. I feel as empty as when I forget my mobile. This is the type of problem a non-knife person will never understand. I'm also the type of person that almost never turn around for anything.

What is the greatest length you have gone through to go get a knife(ves) you forgot?

I’ve had to stop and buy a knife because I forgot to grab one when I left the house.

I used to have one Buck 110 and 2 sheaths on different pairs of pants. So I could come home from work hang my work pants up and put on my jeans without messing with my belt.

In theory it worked ok, until I’d reach for my knife and find an empty sheath. It was a terrible feeling. Then I’d worry all day if I lost it or left it at home.

The solution was to buy more 110’s and spread them around.

Yea, sounds like the perfect solution and excuse to buy more knives

pretty obvious to us now, but at the time it seemed pretty extravagant. Funny how your perspective can change.

My point was maybe you need a second edc knife for your car. Just in case.

Cvrobinson Cvrobinson if I lived that closed to a real bonifide knife shop I’d be stopping everyday even if I didn’t forget my edc.

There are no Knife shops within 100 miles of me that I know of.

I feel naked without my EDC, so if I'd forget it at home in the morning, I'd turn around and get it... Being on time isn't as important.

That said, I once rear-ended another car, because a guitar in a shop window caused me to "turn my head" and not give attention to the traffic in front of me :D:D:D (If I'd see a BK20 somewhere on display, that would have the same effect)

I have a lineup of EDC options laid out where I keep my keys, wallet, etc. I also keep a couple backup EDC type knives in my car. Plus the rambler on my keys. It would be really hard to forget a knife.

I also have a rambler on my keys, an old spyderco ambitious at the office, leatherman wave & mora kansbol in the car, but non was good enough as a edc knife to get me through the day :D This was the first time in months I forgot my EDC thus it was a shock to my system when driving and feeling my pocket and... empty

I’ve been torn between which knife to carry in the morning and pick the one that hasn’t been carried as much or lately. Not being the knife I really wanted for the day but I carried it out of guilt bc it hasn’t seen much use, then drive home at lunch if I’m close and swap to the knife I really wanted in the first place

yeah some knives can turn a person's life
not only around but upside down too :)
with a box kinda full of saks
i've picked the wrong sak folders
more times than i can remember.
and the last straw was big regret
for having to use a specially enscribed
gift and then having it slip accidently
away unannounced into a void of darkness...
if only i had checked earlier
before setting out of the home
i didn't know it was precious.
well, i've learnt to check now
but even so, every once in a while
in haste i have failed to do a preliminary
and have had to turn back playing fetch
dummy with the right pick for the day.
strangely it doesn't happen with fixed blades :)

I've done it. Though I keep my venerable Vic Super Tinker in my medicine bag, which goes with me everywhere as I'm diabetic. I also keep a SOG powerassist in my glovebox.

It seems there are a few things you will turn around for..... knife, cell phone..... probably a few others.... It is all situational for me, if I am headed for the woods and have NO knife, I might well turn around and head home to retrieve a knife for the day. It really depends on when I discover that I forgot the knife. This would be a very rare event.

Camera equipment is another reason for me to make a U-turn. The dominant accessory item I will turn around and go home is my smart phone. I always have a blade on my key chain and I usually have a spare knife inside my pickup. You might consider stashing one in your vehicle "just in case". SAKs work well for this since they aren't generally real expensive and generally work well enough even if you prefer a larger knife.

With camera gear (or more specifically-certain items), turning around usually means I punt for the day and plan on going another day because I leave very early for my photo outings and the lost time probably ruins my plans.

How about a rifle if you are headed out deer hunting? My Dad forgot his rifle once and all of us kids really laughed about that at the time. It was all good natured fun.

One time the morning I was starting a 4 hour drive for a hunting trip I waited for the post office to open so that I could pick up a knife that had arrived two days before.

We waited in the parking lot for a half hour of my wife letting me know how stupid I was bring and how she wanted to be on the road two hours ago.

I purposely took my time getting the car packed, then casually asked if we could stop. I also mentioned that the post office would be open.

Does that count?

Nope! I might forget my wallet, cell phone, keys and/or pants, but I never forget my knife!

Now that you mention it, I just realized I have a silver alox SAK pioneer stashed in my drawer system in the back of my pickup  Knives everywhere!
