Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

Have you ever used liner/bolster handle on a fixed blade?

Tony Bose showed me a Civil War era Bowie that he has that was made by a company that made folding knives as well. They used similar handle construction techniques that you would see on a folding knife on this particular Bowie. I wish I had pictures of it to post but I don't

Anyway, it gave me the idea to do something similar on a blade that Tony gave me. I posted this in the Bose Knife Forum Gallery:

I know I'm not the only one that has ever done this but it would be interesting to see other examples of fixed blade knives made in this way. I know there are issues of balance that alot of knifemakers seem to take pretty seriously. I would think you could rule out alot of big folders for a mid-point center of gravity. Also, the really big Bowie and camp blades have serious balance issues I would think.

How important is balance?

Balance is very important but I don't see anything wrong with that construction technique for a fixed blade. Nice knife!
