Have you gone all the way?

As of today, guys, I have zero black plastic, one-hand-wonder knives.

I just sold off my last Spyderco, a lightweight Endura. As I've said here before countless times, those knives just didn't do it for me anymore. I found that my thin-bladed slipjoints (and locking SAK, and Buck 55, and Opinel) simply cut better. And I don't mind taking an extra second or two to fetch a knife from my pocket and open it using both hands.

Am I just a Luddite freak? Or has anyone else here gone all the way over to Traditional Land?

No, haven't gone all the way, but the amount of slippies in my collection do outnumber the amount of one hand openers.

i am fast on my way. in the last week and a half, i've jettisoned 11 folders in order to fund slip joints -and i couldn't be more satisfied with my decision. a well made slip joint is much more a joy to handle and use, in my eyes. also, i'm finding i get a bigger kick out of two-handed opening :D
i get such a kick out of the slippies that i've also got a few fixed blades circling the chopping block at the moment

I only carry slippies now, despite still owning some wonderknives.

I consider that a moral victory.

Pretty much just carry slipjoints or traditional lockbacks (as far as folding knives go) but I have some more modern knives which are classics in their own right or have sentimental value and will never (willingly) be traded off or sold.

Sold the last of my locking Spydercos. I have two remaining locking "modern" knives I will keep because they are fun to play with, but I don't carry them much.

What he said.

(other than the pretty much part). Elliott and I have some very close friends who are knife makers. I can not see parting with some of the work they have created. I really can not remember when I have carried a non-slipjoint, other than a jigged bone lock back which is never more than an arm's length away from me. They guy that made it is a good friend who pretty much specializes in tactical folders. The fact that he made it with me in mind and our close friendship keeps it close by.

Naturally, he was also the first one to come to mind, Gus, when I posted my reply. (Once again on the same wavelength.)

Plus, he built me my very first custom knife and it will always be something I look back on with fond memories and gratitude.

I still have one 'tactical'in my vehicle - a spyderco delica with zip-tie wave. Not for edc use but for when I can't carry and feel the need for security.

Also have one of the new Victorinox one hand soldiers in my kit but not sure if that's considered tactical.

A modern knife or multi-tool...yes. Tactical? I don't think so.
(But that term has pretty much been rendered meaningless anyway.)

I have a mixture of pretty much all types of folding knives -- slip joints, lockbacks, linerlocks, one hand opening, etc.. Most days I carry two knives one of which is a taditional with the other being a one hand opening lockback. I'm still fairly active and a one hand opening knife comes in handy while on a ladder, under my tractor, cutting bale strings while on a feeding trailer behind a tractor, etc..

Some of my knives are gifts given by family members and friends and I couldn't get rid of those even if I wanted to or didn't need them.

Good on you though Mark for accomplishing a set goal. I think it's great that you can meet all your needs with traditional slip joints.

I carry only both at times. But mostly just traditional. I have a few one handed openers that i will hang on to.

I agree, what the heck IS tactical anyway. I guess it sounds cool and sells product....I like the modern one hand opening folders myself. In my line of work I often have another tool in the other hand and need to cut say, a silt fence to get a clear line of sight. In that situation I can hold my plumb bob and prism while opening the knife and cutting what needs to be cut. I LOVE em. But, I like the more traditional as well.

That, my friend, is a question best pondered in another sub-forum. (But I appreciate your solidarity of opinion. ;))

I recently sold off most of my one handed collection. I don't have any black plastic one handed openers anymore. I have other one handers that lock/don't lock but none in black plastic.

Nope, not all the way:o
And I don´t think I will.
I only carry slippies nowadays. Traditionals have become too expensive to get over here:grumpy: so I mainly carry Opinel and Victorinox.
I have a good 30 or so Spydies left and I don't think I will sell them because:

1. Some of them are gifts from fellow Spyderco forumites (I got a D2 Military and Para military/SE from Sal himself)

2. They all are full Spyderedge which nobody seems to like or want.

3. And my son won't let me:p

Haven't gotten rid of my one hand wonders but as of October 11 I have only carried traditional slip joints and love it. I like the thoughts of carrying what my granddad may have carried. I think I was born a hundred years to late.

Nah, I'm too attached to the knives I have, slipjoints or one-hand folders. But like silenthunterstudios said, my slippies outnumber the modern knives by a significant margin. I've pretty much stopped by the modern designs and the folding knives I buy now are all of the traditional variety.

I only carry and buy Traditonal Folders! Mostly Slip Joints!
I got a few Case Trapperlocks and Copperlocks but that's
about it as far as lockbacks go! My Grandfather got me
started collecting Knives and That's what He always bought
for Me and Him! If I bought anything but Traditonal Folders
He would roll over in his grave!! lol. Just kidding it's just what
I like!! The " HUNT" for the Vintage slip joints, Is what I enjoy
the most! as well as buying any slip joints, To tell you the truth!
I've got a problem!! I thank We all do! lol. It's great, is it not! lol.

I only carry and use traditional knives nowadays. However, I still have a fairly good-sized collection of modern folders and fixed blades. I am thinking about selling off a few, but will probably keep most of the folders. They're nice knives, just not what I'm into at the moment. I can still appreciate them for the materials, design and workmanship that they represent.
