Have you gone all the way?

I think I still have some tacticals laying in a draw somewhere, but I will say I HAVE gone all the way for a few years now. I never use the tacticools, never reach for them, never look at them, and quite frankly, never even think about them.
I do have a one handed Multitool (Leatherman Wave), but it is in my emergency/camping/fishing kit. I really don't use it either.
Slippies are all I use now.
Case, Buck, and SAKs.
Handle anything I can imagine, don't cost an arm or a leg, and don't need to be spending more money then this.

i do'nt understand an either or attitude. i use many types of knives, while i admit the traddies are more pleasing to the eye my work in town requires a one hander. in the urban areas the traditional folders are my choice. i have tons of both & intend to keep any types of knives i find useful.

I don't think I've clipped a modern knife in my pocket since May or so, but I can't say for sure that when January comes and its 40 below outside up here that there won't be one there. Taking off my gloves to open up a blade 10 times a day isn't particularly healthy for hands. But there'll still be a traditional knife in one of my pockets for sure.

Since I can only use 1 hand I plan to hang onto my 1-hand opening knives. :D

Grew up with slipjoints & I am enjoying them once again. At the same time I have been enjoying a Kershaw Skyline as my EDC. Silly reason, but I just enjoy flipping it open because it is fun. In a way it sort of brought me back to slipjoints because it reminded me that knives can be enjoyed for more than their use. In the case of slipjoints I have a lot of fond childhood memories & the use of natural materials appeals to me.

Since I'm long since out of the Army, and I work in a cube farm, I really don't need a heavy duty knife. My usual EDC is a mix of the Kershaw Skyline & a Victorinox Compact at work. Outside of work I usually swap the Victorinox Compact for a Victorinox Lumberjack or Farmer. Some days around the house it might just be my Case SBJ or Schrade jack knife.

So I don't see me moving away from my more modern knives, but I am appreciating slipjoints again.

Pat.

I still have a few that would be considered non-traditional. However, they see very little pocket time. I can't remember when the last time was I actually carried one.

Nothing wrong with having a little variety. They will never have the character that a slip joint does though, and I've never found myself sitting in a chair fondling and drooling over a modern folder... YMMV

A modern knife or multi-tool...yes. Tactical? I don't think so.
(But that term has pretty much been rendered meaningless anyway.)

I carry, in certain situations, knives that I have no intention of using, but if I need to, I will.
I have no other use for these types of knives, and they seem to be one-handed openers with long pointy blades.
Tactical?

I really hope we are not including SAKs in to the modern term 'multi-tool'

And my favorite modern black plastic lockback is a Falkniven U2 in laminated steel, too nice a pocket knife not to carry.

I'm slowly building my slip joint collection, and I have been learning a lot here. Currently on order are the 5 Case CV Rancher series knives, and I'm debating on a few GECs and a few more Case models. As to my other knives, I've gifted or sold most, with the remaining pieces being either sprint runs or ones gifted to me with sentimental value. I think this Christmas should clean me out of NIB one-handers that have never seen the light of day.

Brad

EDIT: Traditional knives seem to be a lot more fun to collect, and the hunt is half the fun!

I have sold most of my knives, and I now carry only slipjoints...
But it might be that the collection starts growing again. :D
It's a limbo you cannot escape for sure. But I have pretty much none interest for modern folders anymore.

Pretty much all my knives are trads. Except a few leathermans and a spyderco I got as a gift from someone.

I hope you draw my name in this years Christmas gift exchange. :D

You may want to try out a Queen in D2. I started carrying these years ago and have become part of my weekly EDC. They hold an edge like none of my other slip joints can.

I use and collect knives of all different styles. I will never go all the way in either direction. Why would I purposely limit myself when there are so many nice knives out there?
