Have you guys seen the g-shock Mil-shock project?

Yup. Casio is making too many stupid-ugly G-shocks these days. Too much ornamental detail, moving away from a clean, uncluttered look.

The 5600 looks pretty nice. I'll buy one eventually, the regular model.

I have two G-shocks. One is the DW-6600C:

Can't recall the other model.

Most other G-shocks on the market right now are not to my liking.

btw, I EDC the Solar version of this watch...Made in Japan...

I really like the "Original" style. I have worn my solar G almost daily since Christmas '02 It took about a month on my wrist, but now it is accurate to the USNO atomic clock. These watches are tough, low profile (visually and from a "snagging on s*hit"perspective. The solar ones have a slightly larger numeric display.

Dennis posted a great review link to the solar G a while ago...After reading it, I bought it (from Higuchi, ...Amazing service:like 2 days from Japan!!!!)

have the solar version of this watch so i dont need to think about batteries. I dont wear it when I go spelunking.
Geoff, the instructions on my g-shock solar says the battery is good for 6 months in the dark, so it should be fine for spelunking, even using the backlight and other functions.

I've had a DW-6600 for 10+ years, and have gone thru two batteries and opne strap. Probably the best 80 bucks I've ever spent.

It's survived two Police Academies and ten years of daily wear.

I had one of those very old original G-shocks, and it lasted me for 13 years on the same battery and same strap.

Then i bought one of the newer G-shocks on sale today. It lasted me 1 year beofre i had to replace BOTH the strap and battery. And it's a piece of crap to boot.
I'm currently wearing my Seiko 5 because I can't afford a better watch and don't want to buy another G-shock.

Although, if they still make those original looking G-shocks I might give it a try again.
But I'm very disappointed with the new ones.

I got the Tough Solar G-Shock WaveCeptor metal version, massive, gimmicky, functions I can't remember let alone need ... I love it. :) I haven't had it a year, so I can't say how long it will hold up, but I'm very happy with it so far.

By the way, no thanks to whoever started this thread and all of you who are keeping it going, but I ended up on CountyComm's website last night, and bought more stuff ...

Who makes this watch? I've seen it on Countycomm's website but I've also seen it on Broadarrow.net IIRC. Also, can the strap be swapped out for another of the same width?
TIA.
