Have you noticed that CRK "sword" at NGK?

I saw this sword on another post and was awestruck. The time it takes to make a fixed blade in general and then trying to make one this large is amazing. If I dished out the $2800 I would probably have to use it as my everyday carry. I guess over my shoulder like previously said would be my best bet. :D

Is there any specific historical informaiton about this knive? Sounds like it's a one of a kind creation from the man himself. I'd sure like to know more about it.

$3,000 for a knife... Good investment or wasted cash? What do you all think?

I tend to think that this is a knife made by Chris himself while he was in South Africa. Wasted cash? Not likely. In the short run (less than 5 years), appreciation probably won't be spectacular but I'd say after 15 years or so you won't be able to get near one of these for less than $10-15K. Last summer I went to visit CRK and one on the guys there had large double edge (if I remember correctly) knife that Chris had made him. Chris will occasionally make a knife and they tend to sell rather quickly. Fixed blades just aren't my thing but someday we'll all be kicking ourselves in the ass for not picking it up now as in, "I remember the days when I could have bought a CR sword for only $2,800.00."  ;) :p

Specific history from a reliable source:

One of 11 made while Chris was in South Africa. Discontiued due to the difficulty in heat treating such a large blade. I would consider it highly collectable and not a waste of money. But that's just my humble opinion. :)

I tend to think, too, that the $3,000 price is not excessive. Combining the rarity, knive manufacturer, history, pride of ownership, etc.; I'd say the price is fair. Even it it goes down in value, it still has a certain something that makes it rather special.

I hate to tell you all a Coke will not come with the knife :P

The good news is, it did come with a black leather CRK sheath.
According to Anne, Chris handmade this one himself, the grinding etc. the only thing machined is the stippling on the handle. The butt cap is steel which is rare but the knife is large enough to handle the weight of it, Matter of fact the butt cap is heavy enough that taken off and swung with the lanyard it itself would make a formidable weapon.

Anne told me that Chris made 12 of these while in South Africa, 11 of them had a spear point or dagger style blade and this one was the only one made with this blade style. It is marked "11" on the side with the CRK logo, the back side has "South Africa" engraved in it.

The person we bought it from said that during shipping the knife had cut through the sheath and that Chris had recently fixed the sheath to new and had touched up the tip on the knife. So it has been in "The Mans" hands again recently.

The handle is huge and would hold a good supply of anything you wanted to put in it but I never really measured it (duh).

Very cool piece, I think Mike and I both hated to see it leave the store but hey someone had to buy it, hope whoever you are you enjoy it you got a sweet knife IMO.

Well done on the sale, a fantastic item.

I wonder is it one of the regulars here  :D  If so, spill the beans, you lucky brute.

I can only just imagine the work put into making one of those beauties. There was a unanimous admiration of it, that's for sure.

Whoever scored her

Freakin' awesome.

Heat-treating such a large piece may have been a problem for CRK back in the day, but I wonder if it is now.....I'd love to see a new run of these in CPM3V....... :D

OK... here goes.... I'm sort of a newbie to the world of knives and, up to now, had only purchased two CRK knives... a Shadow I and and Green Beret... both from New Graham Knives. When I saw the availability of this rather special knife, I went for it; and I got it! I hesitated a little to let anyone know since I'm fairly new here, but all you guys seem like good folks.

Now that I've got it, what should I do with it? I'm thinking about writing a letter to CRK, letting them know I've got it, and asking them if they would draft a return letter with a brief history of the knife. What do you guys think?

I'll try to post a few photos of it in the next couple days to share some of the detail with the rest of you guys.

Asking CRK for a letter is a good idea.

Yeah we're a safe bunch. Just don't post your address. ;)

Well done GoodGuy

You have collected something very special there. It's the best CRK on the market in a considerable time and, as you say, will be proven with time to be an astute buy

My heartfelt congratulations to you
Many happy days with her

I'm not much of a photographer, but here are a couple of pictures. The knife is too big to really capture it, so I'll simply show a couple of details. The steel appears darker in the photos than it actually is.
