Have you received a custom from Emerson?

If you've been around this forum for a while, you know that the wait for a custom knife from Emerson is very, very long. But, I rarely if ever even see any postings from people who have actually received a custom knife from Emerson.

Has anyone on this forum received a custom knife directly from Emerson in the last six months? If so, what model did you get and how long was your wait?

If you look back a couple of months two people posted getting CQC6 in 3.5 years. They were satin finish, one serrated both with green micarta scales and bead blasted bolsters.

Hope this helps.

Jason

Thanks Fenris. I'm asking these questions more out of curiosity than anything else. I know that the Mary and Ernie are very busy with their production knife business but I'm wondering if Ernie is spending time making the custom knives. It baffles me that the wait for my order went from two years to three years to four years; that I completely don't understand. I look forward to hearing from anyone else.

My order for a CQC6 was placed in August, 1995. Waiting period as per invoice 579 was 15 months. It's now four years later. No Knife. After many calls etc. Many promises of an impending delivery. Still no knife. What's the answer? There is no answer. User name is soubriquet.

Thanks Eric. That is really a long time! I thought back then Ernie was better about his delivery times. It almost makes me wonder what does he do with all of the money he recieves from deposits?

Don G, I know you started this as strictly a curiousity topic, but this is an area that can get hot fast. There was a very heated discussion in KnifeForums.Com not too long ago.

All I can say from what I read there, a lot of things were said. Some not so nice and promises were made.

Les Robertson told me at the Blade Show that, Ernie will be making a very large run of CQC-6 first,as this is his most popular model. Once he is caught up with that, he will start on the rest. I know some 6's have been trickling out. That's all I have heard.

Dirk - I'm curious about your response. Why do you say it could get heated fast? What was the jist of the discussion on Knifeforums?

I'm one of the two recently delivered CQC-6s.
Yes, it was a 3 1/2 year wait, but that didn't bother me. In fact, I placed an order via email for four customs two weeks ago. I haven't received a reply. Now THAT bothers me.

Since I wrote the above, I have received email confirmation of my order. Thanks Emerson Knives.

Don, if memory serves, it started out as someone asking about delivery time and what the hold up was. Then there were more than a few people who had placed an order and had yet to see their knife after almost 4 yrs. Some of these poeple were upset and made accusations about Ernie and his honesty. Some people jumped in to defend Ernie. This got things going even hotter. There were some off line discussions eluded to in the discussion. Finally Ernie made an appearance and explained why there was such a delay and made promise to get caught up ASAP.

There were a couple other topics that were similar in nature. They, too began to get heated. They died a quick death. I think mainly because of the big one that preceeded.

I have not seen one on BladeForums get very in depth or intense. Which is good. I must admit, I put my two cents into the discussion. Looking back, I at least wish I hade been more tactful.

That is one thing I have noticed about this group, usually no one takes things too seriously. They keep things in perspective. It makes this so much more fun.

Thanks for the explanation Dirk. I wish Ernie would participate more in this forum.

The Run of CQC 6's that Dirk spoke of in our conversation at the Blade Show. Was given to the Blade Forum Custom Room when I posted the now famous.. How many days does Emerson have to work to produce the 3,000 orders he says he was back order in the Nov 97 Blade Magazine. Again, this was a quote from Ernie in a open source document. The answer was about 15 hours a day, every day for 3 years.

Ernie later commented that he was probably a little off it was more like 2,400. Emerson said that he was going to do a big run of CQC 6's. So it appears he is trying to fill some of his orders.

I know of one individual who received his knife last month. The only reason I know is within 48 hours of receiving it he shipped it to me.

So while I don't know about a big run, it appears that Emerson is making some custom knives.

I would suspect if he is doing Blade Show West in a couple weeks, he will have some there as well. So if your tired of waiting and want to get your knife right away, head to the next knife show Emerson is at.

Maybe the best thing to do is just cancel your order and go to a show where he is going to be.

If I remember correctly, one of the issues brought up in the previous post was that Emerson customs were being sold and raffled(?) at shows, while customers were waiting for their knives. Wasn't there a response in the post regarding this issue?
