Hi im new here, going to stay optimistic about good intel about the lionspy, beautifull looking knife from picture, but wondering if its £280 of knife and great looks or just £280 of good looks, I need a long lasting steel and a folder that in cold climate with frozen hands could take similar battering as a fixed.
My req's are as follows.

- lasts a year of daily use with unpredictable use, differents hunts, mostly sea fish but some road kill processing too and maybe some poultry.
-Stays sharpen for several days of british winter rain untill the next dry spell.
- easily accesable and easy to open if my hands are pretty tight from the cold and big enough to use for potentiol battening.
-stays open really well under some strain which is where the roto block sounds great.
-titanium and g10 I think should last me all year round.
- can be sharpened relatively easily.

Basically needs to last a year of trekking at least in the uk.
Im pretty sure this blade will stand up to all this. I wont need a tactical ability but im sure the width of tbe blade and length could ward of some nastys.
Im hoping you guys could let me know if the lionspy will hold up to these req,s
Hoping you with experience with it will say yes, caus its a beaut as are all the lion steel roto blok combi knifes.

Thanks adam

I owned an SR-1 and really enjoyed it.

All the lionsteel roto blok combi folders are great looking, wish I didnt have to choose between them lol.
The shop i want to buy from doesnt have the sr1 titanium, just the aluminnium, the pohl force fox trot one outdoors blades not the best Looker, but the scales will handle great in gloves over the others. The h'e's't is a beaut too, but d2 not elmax, but I cant buy them all, just the one. The sr1s got the onbe peice handle, they all have benifits over each other lol.
A combi of them all is needed!

FOr those you need a fixed blade. Elamx is not relatively easy to sharpen but does hold an edge for a while. I would suggest the Tuominen puukko in S30V

Yeah ill have a fixed too, probably a fallkniven phk 3g, or the gerber lmfii, also a wildlife axe, just being in britain means the police can just take any of them from me if I have them at the ready and not concealed, so a pocket knifes mandatory for really cold weather or fallen ill and cant acess my pack easily.
Lot of steel to take, but not taking luxurys like sleeping mat etc

Noticed a lion steel specific forum on here, I could have made this topic there and asked for re views on the other roto's.

I dont think the pohl force blade shape is of use for processing animals though, but then maybe I wont need to process much animals, could roast them after skinning and the foxtrott should skin rodentia and rabbit fine, but then I got filleting fish to worry about.. its a problem after problem trying to equip the best tool with most function that isnt a weak multitool.

I thought you guys in the U.K. couldn't have a locking folder as a folder more than 3" long? Would they not take that away as well?

If carrying without legitimate reason or you look dodgy etc, im planning 4500-6500 mile trekk, should be good enough reason to carry the tools.

Having tried a Lionspy I'd take a Military in with your needs.

The Lionspy is very well made, but imho it isn't a very practical folder design.

I have the Lion and I do rotate it into my EDC on occasion. The reason it is not a constant is that it is a bit bulkier than some other options that I have at my disposal.
Overall, the Lion is an excellent option depending on the situation. Rock Solid and built like a tank!

The whole biult like a tank is also what I need it for, if I get some virus and need warmth ill need to batten some wood to make heat in emergency, I was assuming a thinner and less wide blade wouldnt cope werll at all or maybe only last 1 occasion leaving me without.

I second the Spyd Military suggestion. Much lighter, not nearly as bulky, it cuts like a demon, and can handle whatever you throw at it.

Would you mind offering a reason of the blade shape.

The blade is way too thick for me to consider for cleaning fish and game or most any other kind of food prep.

For everyday durability using it hard every day in the tasks you mentioned, I think you'd be better served by one of the Spyderco Manix series. Paired with a light thin blade like a Victorinox Alox Solo or other SAK, that should carry you through whatever the world throws at you.

With a high carbide blade made of Elmax, S30V, etc, you'll want a portable sharpening tool that can cut carbides. That means a small diamond hone or a carborundum stone. I'd recommend a small DMT diamond hone.

Also, keep in mind that if you plan to do any batoning with a folding knife, you need to unlock the blade while doing the batoning. Unless the knife has a Demko Tri-Ad lock, or is a slipjoint or a friction folder, that is. Even then, batoning with a locked folder is iffy.

Between the two, I would have to say that the Military would be a little more "Friendly." I have to agree that the Military does indeed "Cut Like A Demon." As for price point, The LS, Milie, and HEST (As mentioned in the Thread) are all great options and I'd be hard pressed to say anything "REAL BAD" about any of them. I wish you the best on your search for a blade that suits your needs, you are in the right place for suggestions.
Good Luck

Yeah illhave a stone with me, I could take a sharpmaker if need be without carry weight worry.

I assumed the thickness would be fine for game as the fallkniven phk is 5mm thick.

Its not that im planning to baton or give any hard use to any knife I take, its in an survival situation, like I stray from the shore and take on a mountain and fail warmth and cant get into my pack easily but picked up some fire wood and have a tank folder in my pocket strategically placed prior to the potentiol need of it. I wouldnt edc it other than at night incase I wake up with fever or I feel a bit grotty and think a good idea to have something concealed and capable of almost anything.
Im hoping if I get ill I can just sleep all day and not worry about eating for that day.

So much to think about and so much lust for this specific knife lol.
And so many other knifes to think about too.
A tough steel which needs little care is also another requirement.

Wish I was just a collector and not a wonnabee adventurer, I wouldnt need to worry about so many requirements and precise needs lol.

When I first realised a folders a mandatory for my trekk the h'e's't was my first choice, but luckily I bought a primus omnilite ti stove instead, gave me morechance to conclude or attempt to conclude a blade more suitable, such a chore thinking about it, got to do the same thing to figure the best pot and the best poncho and the best tarp etc etc etc for my trekk lol, headaches.

Would you mind offering a reason of the blade shape.

The Lionspy doesn't have a useful point (imho), the blade is shorter than the Millie, thicker than needed and heavier to carry. Imho carrying a fixed blade is better if you think you need the blade thickness of the Lionspy.

Is it correct the lionspys approx 170 grams?

I think thats 0.1 oz more than the military titanium.
