What did you have built? Do you have pictures? I'm tempted to get a custom 110 myself but not sure what to have built as I'm not real knowledgable about blade and handle material. Although I am drawn to the Sambar Stag, but the black Asian WaterBuffalo looks good as well.

Anybody with pics of their custom 110's?

By the way, I bought a Buck-Strider 882, but still have that romance going with the 110.

Here is my small Buck 110 collection so far:

Ordered mine two weeks ago. BG-42 blade, oak handle, nickle bolsters with my initials engraved on rear bolster. Kind of fun, picking out the options, just like ordering a car.

I ordered a couple about a month ago, one for me, one for my brother as Christmas presents, they shipped on wednesday. No rivets, cherry wood scales, brass bolsters, finger grooves, BG-42 blades and engraving. I'll post up a pick as soon as they arrive.
I'm already impressed that it actually was built and shipped in the time frame they list on the site. I ordered early expecting them to take longer then listed. Now I can't wait to get them in my hand.
If I am happy with the workmanship, which i'm sure I will be, I plan to order another when damascus becomes available with the mother of pearl scales and silver bolsters. It looks amazing when I mook it up on the build page.

My 1st Buck Custom Shoppe 110 was an elk handled, N/S bolstered, finger grooved, mirror finished 420HC blade; while my 2nd was an Asian waterbuffalo handled, N/S bolstered, finger grooved, black oxide 420HC blade. Have several other custom Buck 110's & 112's picked up over the years. Love 'em all! :D

My first order with the Custom Shoppe was for a 110 with stag handles, brass bolsters and rivets, and a BG-42 blade with my initials and my three-year-old son's initials on the bolsters. What I feeling I experienced when the knife arrived. It exceeded my expectations in terms of fit and finish, lockup, and overall beauty. I intended the knife as a user, but its beauty made me decide to put it aside and present it to my son when he is a young man. So, I then went on to order as a user a 110 with oak scales, brass bolsters and rivets, and BG-42 steel. That knife arrived this week and I am delighted with it. It will be at my side tomorrow as I fish some of Long Island's prettiest ponds, and I am sure it will be used often to cut monofilament and nightcrawlers, as well as who knows what. :)

wow, that one is a beauty! Love the mirror finished blade, quite a looker! May have to consider something like that. Beautiful.

Tell me something about the Asian Waterbuffalo handle, what is that made of, and how does it feel?

I'm assuming the Asian Waterbuffalo handle material is just that...the horn of the Asian Waterbuffalo. :D It's jet black & the natural or jigged contours give you a real nice feel and grip. I have other 110's with handles of woods, stone, stag, giraffe bone & jigged bone but Buck's Asian Waterbuffalo is by far the most textured handle material I've experienced.

Oh, I had no idea that Asian Waterbuffalo was the horn of an Asian Waterbuffalo. Duh. Shows you how much I know about these things. :(

A question about mirror finished blades. How well does the finish hold up when used?

I've built many in the custom 110 shop, but never ordered. I'm waiting (not holding my breath) until I can get a custom 112...

Funny you should ask...

I've added one or two since then. The 560's and 112's have had the BG42 upgrade.

nice layout, Folsom. I have three custom 110s:

1. stag - NS bolsters - BG-42 blade
2. Impala -jigged Asian water buffalo horn - NS - hand-polished bg-42 ( thanks Joe ! ). I had some trouble getting the action right on this knife, but Joe Houser and Effren Reyes took care of me and it's a beauty!
3. checkered cherry wood ( no pins ) - Brass bolsters - champaign nitride ( forget what it's called ) or buckote blade
I am really impressed with all of these fine pieces of cutlary. So far, they are drawer queens, though. Take care, Rob

I have 2 CS Buck 110's, the first is an Elk with N\S bolsters, and the second is Stag with N\S.

When I first ordered the Elk it was with the full intention of using it for EDC. Then I actually held it when it came, and chickened out and didn't. I know have about 12 110's in my collection.

They ARE addictive!

Nice! Do you have pics? I need to build up my collection. I've been keeping on eye on Ebay for something special.

I would love to see the Buck Custom Shop opened up to some of the other knives in Bucks line. The Buck/Striders, especially the large and small 880 series, could be very nicely done up with some Custom Shop options. I know the cost would probably be a bit prohibitive, but some satin finish options, handle material options, and blade material options would make for a NICE dress-up B/S.............if there is such a thing as a "dress" Buck/Strider!
A stag handled, finger grip grooved, satin finished S30V, with some anodized titanium bolsters would work better than any viagra for me!! :D

Hey.....it don't hurt to dream!

Based on this thread, and observing others - I would have to say that the 110 with BG-42, NS and Asian Water Buffalo is one of the most popular combinations coming out of Pete's.

It makes a sweet looking package and as others have said the non-smooth horn makes a nice gripping surface for a knife you'll use. I know I use mine a lot.

I'm planning to order one with BG-42, NS and Indigo Royalwood, can't say I've seen a clear photo of that combination but I think it would look great.

what's the story with BG-42 over the ATS? Much stronger steel? I see alot of people choose that blade. (still a newbie at this)

Thanks for your input. The Asian Waterbuffalo does look real nice! But I'm sort of drawn to the mirror polished blades. (how do they hold up with use?)

I'm no steel afficionado so I'm sure this could start a debate but...

BG42 is comparable to S30V in many ways, both have their loyal following. S30V should be a little more rust resistant than BG-42, but BG-42 should hold an edge a little longer as it's more abrasion resistant. BG-42 should resist chipping a little better as well. S30V is supposed to be easier to machine and take a better finish. Heat treat is of monumental importance to any knife but when it comes from Buck you don't have to worry about that.

I've seen people say S30V sharpens easier than BG-42, where some say thier experience is the exact opposite.

My experience has been that they are very comparable. I see no difference in sharpening but my BG-42 blades seem to stay sharp a little longer. If I had to pick one over the other it would be BG-42 but I have plenty of S30V knives and have no worries about them.

IMO, BG-42 beats ATS-34 so it's the best option if you want a steel upgrade in a PCK 110.

A polished blade will scratch just like a non polished one but you see the scratches more. I personally don't like polished blades because they show everything. If the knife is for looking at - go with a polished finish unless you like the matte look, if you're going to use it I would go with the standard finish so you don't have to worry about it.

Love the custom shop. It'll be a sad day for me (soon) when Buck leaves San Diego for Idaho.

I've replaced blades on 2 110's with BG-42. I have a beautiful Stag, finger grooved, N/S bolsters, BG-42 custom and I gave an Asian Waterbuffalo, BG-42, N/S custom as a gift.

Just wanted to update and say I got my knives on Monday. I was very impressed with the shipping time, and as bonus did not get stuck with the brokerage fee and provincial sales tax like when I brought all my 4x4 parts up from Californa. I live in Canada.
I'll post some pics soon. It sure is hard to get a flattering pic though. Trying has given me a real appreciation for all the artful photography on this site.

All and all I would say I am very impressed and will definatley be ordering more knives from the custom shop in the future.
