Having a problem transitioning from the flat sides of the ricasso to the curvature of a full height convex grind. Will try to post some pics tomm.

Well tried to fix the problem, epic fail. Prototype 1 in the trash. Maybe I will eventual get up enough gumpsion to try again. I sure hope so. I have to much invested now to give up. lol

I was just wondering is there a video out there that can take me through this step by step. I have seen several for sale at some knife building supplies, but was wondering if someone could recommend a good one to learn on. I have some basics down.
These are some of things I did right. I think...........
1. Cut the distal taper.
2. Cut the ricasso by hand with jig and file.
3. Even my full height convex looked pretty good.
I guess I need some help in the blending part. A good video would be a great, since there is no one in my area willing to show me some of the tricks, or invite me into their shop.
Thanks

You said cut the ricasso.. do you mean plunge line? If so, cutting the plunge line with the file and a jig would give you flat area in the plunge cut, witch would not blend so well with the convex grind, leaving the middle of the plunge cut deeper. If I understood this right? If so, try to cut the plunge with the file also more in the convex manner

Thought about it. Instead of wasting my Aldos steel, decided to practice my grinding technique on some files that I had already annealed. Worked on a large Nicholsan Mill Bastard yesterday, and I actually did not hate it. I am thinking I will go ahead and heat treat it, and handle it. While I still see many errors in the grinding process, I am starting to get the "Feel" for it, might as well go ahead and work on handle skills.
Side note: I had bought the bubble jig. Have tried to use it several times, and find it very hard to keep the bubble in the center while grinding, found that I did a better job free handing it.
