Having problems with poachers.

Speaking of thread, I've used spools of black or brown thread to track trespassers. Just string it thru the woods and trespassers will break it, the ends pointing out their direction of travel. Place it so that deer won't break it, just people. Use weak, thin thread and the trespassers likely won't even notice it.

If your land is properly posted, you should have called the sheriff the first time some four years ago and began the process, by now it would have be done. You have to call the local sheriff every time you see him on site. Do not let him know you are there just call sheriff and press charges everytime, after the third time the judge will grant a restraining order and or peace bond depending on where you live. Once the restraining order or peace bond is violated your problem will be solved and your poaching issues will stop. It takes time and again is a legal process and is going to be a pain in the ass with the burden on you the tax paying, law abiding property owner and not the poaching scum bag, but it can and does work, again it just takes time.

Good luck

It's a solid variation. If I had the money I would have been working with the whole trail cam thing. Unfortunately, I just don't have the money for a trail cam. School is expensive!! thanks for all the advice and suggestions thus far.

It is worth the investment. Look around for second hand cameras. These cameras are evolving all the time and people keep buying the newest and latest units and often have old ones laying around. There should be some good deals out there.

Sorry fellas. Between school and Skyrim (and now hunting), I haven't had much time and sort of forgot about this.

Bufford, where do you suggest looking? The usuals, like eBay and Craig's List?

Here is a picture of one of the "ladder stands" that someone illegally put up on our property. We plan on having the game commission come out this weekend to watch us tear it down and talk to the outlaw. We're still quite worried he is going to retaliate. At this point if I had a trail cam that doesnt have a huge flash I would put it up near a treestand.

Don't call your mother
Don't call your priest
Don't call the doctor
Call the police!

Why would you wait to tear it down if it is on your property. You've taken the picture to prove where it was. Take it down!--KV

Was fairly plain to me. He wanted the officers to witness the location and construction for themselves. They may even have suggested it to him to bolster their authority to whack the trespasser's pee-pee.

You could check ebay, but I have never really studied those sites. Check secondhand stores and pawnshops. A better source are your friends and hunting buddies, they are in the know and that's where I have picked up some good deals on gadgets like cams and GPS units.

In 23 yrs. of owning my chunk of hunting land ,,I have chain sawed down trees that people put a stand in, Run them down with snowmobile ,4x4 wheeler,, called the police ,,called the game commission,, confronted ,,and now have posted the land by the laws ,,It sucks to be this way ,,but it has to be done,, Not enough time to tell you what some hunters have put me thru,,Even caught poachers ,,
Its unreal what land owners have to go thru to keep there land theres, and respected,, I respect and help any land owner opening there land for me , So Keep at it ,whatever works ,,Paper trails the best.. Good luck ,,Be smart ,,,The wrong step could cost you ..
Then who won..

Put up a sign on your land that anyone who hunts there has to pay $500 per day for the privilege.

When the poacher is caught, sue in small claims court for multiple days of theft of services.

Or, you could just settle the 9 vs. .45 debate to your own satisfaction, at his expense. Did I say that last part out loud?

Bmilla ,,yes ,,please update us ..Hope you get it done ,,or get the right people on it ,,that will for you.. Its a sad thing ,but it does go on..
Thank You and Good Luck..

Call fish and game and the police

Take down or destroy and remove

Every year I throw people off my land and adjoining land that there is no trespassing on

I am usually very mean when I do it and verbally abusive

I tell them if they come back I will call police and they will not have an opportunity to leave till police arrive

If it is a good stand which they usually are not I give them away if they are junk I destroy them leave them at location and try to catch them coming back

You have to get nasty people who trespass and poach do not understand anything else

It is your land you are in the right

Past few years I've taken them down and tacked a note on the tree saying that the stand can be reclaimed at the Police station. It's a small town and I know the chief. No one has ever picked one up.

Update (finally):

Well, i've been back from school for 10 days and in between the stomach virus that floated around my family and the accident I got into the day I came back (I'm alright, just getting estimates, etc) I have had zero time. I'm going out on Friday HOPEFULLY, and will be documenting and tearing down the stand whether the game commission and make it or not :D

That sucks you have to deal with this scumbag bmilla. How old is this guy? Big guy? Are you a younger adult? Maybe hes not taking you serious? You sound like a nice guy, be mean when you see him.

Its amazing how many scumbag hunters are out there, go to crazy lengths to shoot something and get some meat. I just took a look at trail cameras, looks like you can get a nice one for around $100 might be able to find a cheap used one as previously mentioned. Family wont help out with the camera?

Poachers are some of the scum of the earth. Sincerly hope everything works out.
