Nu'uanu eh, Cynt? I grew up not too far from you...

The cow pic isn't from O'ahu is it? I'm guessing by the free-roaming Nene pics, probably not. Looks like the Big island....

Cows are Maui, the Nene pics are from Haleakala crater.

Shoots, now I got to dig up pics from Big Island... where are those...

Yeah, I figured your pics were from Big Island or Maui. Figured more Maui after I looked at your pics in the Outdoor pic thread a few minutes ago :)

Awesome pics! Thanks for sharing those.

Rksoon, that centipede would make a good meal for two. Ugh.

All the best,

- Mike

Sweet pics! Here's a photo of the very rare and elusive Hawaiian Trail Cow, a distant cousin to the Hawaiian Road Cow

HAHA! That's why it was labeled a nice millipede! Those centipedes bite like hell. I patched up the guy who was cleaning the coconut trees in my old neighborhood, looked like it hurt like hell.

Ugh indeed, Mike :D

Yup, they do. Nasty lil beasties. Thankfully, I've never been bitten by one yet, but I know many who have. None enjoyed it much. I was always the designated centipede killer back home...man, those things just love to get between the sheets in your bed...hang out around the sofa...chill in your closet or laundry basket....

Post up Hawaii stuffs and everybody start crawlin out li da cockaroach!

i have always wanted to go to Hawaii... until now. that centipede picture freaks me out. and they BITE??? :barf::barf::barf::barf:

We don't have snakes, we don't have rabies, we don't have gators or crocks, big cats, bears, not many spiders... Hawaii is about as mild as it gets, biggest dangers are sunburn, few meth heads, bad drivers, pissed off wild boar and curious sharks. Oh and the occasional centipede. Even the skeeters aren't too bad here.

Now tsunamis, earthquakes, volcanoes (40 years of darkness, humans rising from their graves, dogs and cats living together... mass hysteria!) and generally being far from everywhere, that's another story.

I get three weeks there this year, 10 days on the Big Island and 10 more on the north shore of Kauai. I really can't wait. Really.

Just got a new job offer and they want me there in Sept. I told them they'd have to wait as I'm gonna be in Hawaii.

And of course the ever elusive and DELICIOUS, wild boar. Had too much beef to deal with a pig. Hawaii is an outdoorsmans dream.

... I found a grandaddy centipede in my pocket one night when my buddies and I were drinking on the beach:D. We decided to leave so my hand went in my pocket for my keys, and me keys decided to crawl and weave in between my fingers. I then realized my cold rubbery keys were a little big feeling.:eek::eek: My hand flew out of my pocket and an eight inch wriggling centipede came sailing out, landed on the ground, and crawled away into darkness. Luckily I wasn't bit. It made for a good laugh:D.

My friend once woke up from a nap to find one laying right on his chest and it bit him in the neck. The front of his neck was purple for a good half of the week.

Aside from centipedes, infections, and ocean critters there isn't much more to worry about here. We do have some scorpions though.
