Hawaii Laws?

I found an article discussing moves to make the bali illegal in Hawaii that was introduced in 99. There seemed to be some uproar from FMA people and proponents of the bali being a culturaly significant right of passage in the local ethnic culture. Anyone know how this turned out, or if its still being discussed? Hope it went well. Its a shame to lose a piece of your history because people are scared or misinformed.

Do you read the Star Bulletin online? I remember seeing an article first in the paper, and then online when I was reviewing whether balis were indeed illegal in Hawaii.

<A HREF="http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/vol03/hrs134/hrs_134-53.htm">Updated statute from 1999 session</A>

It's enlightening to go to the root of this site and use the search function with "butterfly knife." Since some of the case history had exempted balis as gravity knives, an entirely new section (with wording borrowed directly from switchblade knives) was created.

Looks like the bali, and the ethinic culture, lost another one. Anyone know the details? To answer your post, no, I don't read it. Just came across the article under a random "balisong" search.
