I forged this from a ball peen hammer that I differentially heat treated with the edge harder than the body.
The handcrafted curly maple handle is not replaceable but I will include a hickory handle because I know whoever buys this will want to throw it at the barn door or the wood pile and I guarantee they will eventually break the handle. ( Of course, I've never done that myself, I just saw someone else do it
) The handles are removed by a sharp blow on the butt with a rubber mallet, dead blow hammer or wooden mallet and then slide the new handle into the eye.
The haft is 18 1/2 inches with the head at 8 inches long with a cutting edge of 2 1/2 inches. A simple leather edge protector.
