I haven't made hawks in a couple of years but found this in the bottom of a drawer that I seldom use. I need to clean my shop more often.
Unknown steel from a ball peen hammer but I did an edge quench leaving the body to cool slowly. The best that I can determine with Rockwell test files is the edge somewhere around Rc 60 so this can't be sharpened this with a file, it will need a stone.
The haft is 16 1/2 inches long from curly maple that I dyed and treated with oil
Head measures 7 inches from edge to the end of the spike
Cutting edge is about 2 1/2 inches
A simple leather edge guard with ties
