I'm looking for a hawkbill folder for EDC but I can't seen to find one that suits what I'm looking for. I would like something plain edge g 10 or at least frn handles. Something that isn't a salt knife because I have no use for one. I would also like something that I can put through some hard work. anyone know anything like this out there?

thanks in advanced :)

Spyderco Dodo seems like it fits the "bill"

Isn't the spyderco dodo out of production?

That version with the black G10 (as far as I know) is out of production however the carbon fiber version is still being sold and in stock in some places. Albeit at a higher cost.

ok. I don't want to spend too much

Spyderco Harpy, they still show up from time to time. There is a SS handle Byrd line hawkbill too but its not a very steeply hooked blade.

Thank you. I'm not a big fan of SS handles like I said I'd honestly prefer g 10 or at least frn

Spyderco Superhawk (disco'd)? If you don't need it to be one-handed opening then the Opinel pruner or Case pruners are quite nice.

I have been looking into that but I'd like to include something I just noticed. I would prefer torx construction. not pin like what's on the spyderhawk and tasman

You don't want too much, do you? Premium materials and construction without a premium pricetag. Frankly, the only thing I've ever seen that comes close to what you want is the now discontinued G-10 Byrd Crossbill. Good luck.

Yeah there's honestly not a ton of quality hawkbills to choose from on the market at large, so as a consumer some concessions will have to be made.

If you've got a ceramic rod, it's not too tough. You could also use the side of your stone.

I almost hate to mention this, but Smith & Wesson makes a hawkbill. In spite of the ridiculous tiger striping, it's a decent knife. I had one, stopped carrying it because of the overly tight pocket clip, and it takes a lot of space in your pocket.

Yeah, no G-10 (metal handles), but why not throw it out there?

There are excellent hawkbills out there, but the demand is not high so they are difficult to find and difficult to sell or resell.

The Superhawk comes up once in a while. It's a great hawk, with VG10 steel, CF scales, compression lock and torx construction. I tried to sell mine a fair while ago at a low price, but didn't get a single offer. Just not a great market for manufacturers to commit to.

How does one go about sharpening a hawkbill?

I use a Jewelstik "Stubby" diamond steel on my concave blades, ranging from hawkbills to fillhooks and scythe blades. The "lemon" shape of the rod does a great job of hitting the interior of the curve without missing the last 1/8" of the base of the blade like a round rod does.

if you are still trying to sell it I'd be willing to make an offer

Look at one of these: http://www2.knifecenter.com/item/BO...fe-Folding-Knife-3-34-inch-Blade-G-10-Handles
I bought one last year on a whim and a sale. Kinda funky looking but I was pleasantly surprised by it's solid build and F&F (fit & finish). G10 scales and Boker does a good job with the steel. Blade is sharpened on both sides, holds an edge pretty well and sharpens easily. Comes in nice magnetic closing box with lanyard and pocket friendly clip. I got it just for fun and it's quality and function surprised me. If you could get over serrations the Spyderco Matriarch is a great hawkbill type knife too.
