I posted this pic in the general discussion area and got some pretty good feedback from the user point of view.
My goal is to refine and finalize two Hawkbills in the neck knife size. I would like to hear what OTHER MAKERS have to say about the designs! Is the Tanto version too similar to another makers design?? Do neck knives HAVE to be utilitarian to sell?? I've seen some radical looking neck knive flying of makers tables at shows!! Skip the holes? Remove the finger notch?? Raise the grind lines??
I appreciate any and all input!

Looking real good!

I have been drawing some hawkbills but havent made them yet.

Yours are real fine, dont loose the holes in the blade, but try to make them smaller as they aproach the tip.
What kind of steel do you use for them?
I tend to think R.E.K.A.T when i see them?

Keep it up

Thanks Claus,
They are made of D2. I'm working on another based on the imput from the general discussion thread.

Are you milling the holes or Drilling the holes, i guess it is a question of type of bit... also how did you finish the inside of the holes and the bevels around them???
IN my opinion, they are really cool, good lines...how much do they weigh before and after the holes in the blade?? noticable lighter?

Jim,
I drilled the holes with Cobalt drills in a Bridgeport Milling machine. I used a 45deg countersink to chamfer the holes. After Heat treat I polished up the holes with a carbide reamer and countersink.
The Tanto version is VERY light for its size.
