Thanks guys.
Well as for materials,
The hawk heads were made from some type of keyed shaft out of a roofing pitch kettle.
I did a test heat treat and worked out well so I used the shaft for the hawk heads.
The hammer is from a broken end of a jack hammer bit.
The handles are all hickory lightly stained and some file work.
I also made sheaths for the hawks.

Nice work George.
Looks like they came right out of the 18th century!
What kind of drift did you use, tear drop or oval?

Great Job! I forged my first hawk out of a junk chinese 16oz ball peen hammer i got at harbour frieght this past summer, man that was a lot of hot hammerin!
I would recommend a US or British made ball peen hammer for anyone wanting to make a hawk. Most of those Chinese hammers are only good for paperweights as the steel is so bad.
I also like to use antique ball peens that you can pick up for a buck or two at flea markets. Great steel.
And yes, it sure does take a lot of elbow grease.
