I was wondering if you guys could shoot me in the direction of some light weight yet useable/durable choppers. I really like the Gransfors mini but it's a little pricey.
There are very few, because they are on the perimiter of the effectiveness scale for chopping. But, they are compact and more likely to be with you when packing light is paramount. One needs to search for reviews and tests to find where someone actually weighed them. Listed weights by the manufacturer can be misleading due to the hammer heritage. Listed weights can be the head only or even the equivalent head weight. For example, a "22 oz" hammer with a steel shaft can weigh about 2 lbs. whereas both the Kershaw and a Norland are 22 oz total. If you are looking for 1 lb total including sheath, check the Uluchet- mine is a solid useful tool. It would be helpful if more of the posts here included total weight when possible. ss.
