Hay Budden Anvil Date?

My Hay Budden 110 lb. anvil has this serial number: 73762

Anyone know when it was made?

No clue, but if you check with the guys over at anvilfire.com, they should be able to help.

That serial number puts the anvil manufacture date as late 1901. Certainly towards the end of the year as Hay Budden used serial numbers from 65001 - 75000 for the year 1901.

Hey guys, new to the forum and smithing. Just had a couple of questions, I picked up an old hay budden 155lb anvil on Monday and got it for $30 I feel like I got a deal if I'm not mistaken they go for about $3 a lb. But I'm wondering if there is any kind of acid I can use to bring the stamp back on the bottom of the horn so I can get a date? Any help of advice is much appreciated!
