Almost identical. The HD has a great feel in the hand, wish it had a satin finish option. Both of these are supposed to be tan canvas micarta, interesting how much more red the AD tan has compared to the HD tan. How durable is the tan finish compared to black?

Great pics! Thanks for posting those. It's tough sometimes to see the changes until you see the knives side-by-side. Great comparison! :D

I want one :'(

on bussecompanystore.com there's only 2 knives availables but the Heavy Duty is not one of them :/

Great to see you over here on the Busse Forums. I was just going through some stuff the other day and found one of the old notes you included with an MT I bought from you.

I've found that the tan finish is slightly more durable than the black. Also, the tan micarta's might look more similar if a little oil (wd-40 would work also) were wiped on them. The micarta darkens with use and the AD may have just been handled a little more

Great looking knives, thanks for sharing the pic

:D:D

Thanks for your comments.

Nick - You probably know they are only in stock when the price is listed. I sent an E-mail a few weeks ago and they replied when they got a batch and let me know they would be posted for sale in a couple hours. As soon as the price went up, I ordered one. I think they were sold out pretty fast. If you sent an inquiry, they will let you know when more will be available, and you have to act fast.

Eric - Great to hear from you! I have been snorting around the HOG pen lately. Busse makes damn fine knives, will last several lifetimes, we both have an appreciation for fine knives. :D Have seen your posts and appreciate you sharing your vast information as I am only a piglet. The AD might have oil on it, never thought about that, will see if some acetone lightens it up. Am considering one of these for carry and am leaning towards the AD due as the tan finish is too nice to damage.

The Micarta will clean up with hot water, a mild dish soap and a little scrubbing. I don't know that acetone will hurt anything but water and soap will easily do the trick.

Personally I like the darker micarta so it looks good to me.

Glad to hear that you are picking up a few pieces, you can't go wrong with any of them, but you have 2 of the most desireable there.

:D:D

Here's a pic of two Paul's Hatchet with identical handle material, black canvas micarta. Of course, one of them was just oiled.

WM, what did you use to oil the micarta? I would like to darken some of the handles on my knives. :D

Just plain old mineral oil. Any oil will do the same. Heck, so will water, but it won't stay dark.
