Hi guys,

(I thought this might fir here better if you already saw my question.)
I'm on the search for a good, heavy duty, daily carry locking folder that can be a general purpose knife for any task I may run into and find its the only knife on me at the moment. It would serve as a general cutter, possible woods carver, think fuzz sticks or trap triggers, deer dresser, self defense, etc. Since I spend good money on fixed blades that I carry less than daily, I decided I should upgrade my EDC folder beyond my $30 SAK! Besides wanting USA made, I'd like to keep the budget around $150 or less.

What would you recommend?

Thanks for any/all ideas!

I'll say the Benchmade 275 Adamas. It's about $20 over your buget but for a super tough do anything folder with a crazy strong lock less than $200, look no further. If that's too big of a folder, Benchmade has plenty of other Axis lock offerings most of which are really tough.

Spyderco Manix 2, PM2
ZT0200, 0566, 0801

ZT 0200 , ZT 0350, Benchmade 275 Adamas, Spyderco PM2, There are plenty of options for what you are looking for

If available to you, I would suggest going to a nice store and feel them in your hand before purchase. But If that's not an option, just buy the one that looks the best to you and if you don't like it there will be plenty of individuals on here that will buy or trade for your next test subject.

I don't think the pm2 is heavy duty and he specifically wants heavy duty... I own the 275 adamas and it is DEFINITELY heavy duty slightly above 150 but worth it.

Yeah I'd definitely go for the zt 0350 good for light to heavy duty tasks ( for a folder of course). I've skinned rabbits, ducks , and squirrels with it but the blade shape would be great for a skinning a deer. It's also a really good flipper deassisted

O christ here we go again buck 110 people are going to go nuts.

Go ZT any in your budget will do all you want.

After carrying a ZT0301 every day for the past year and a half I recently switched to a PM2.

In my humble opinion the PM2 is 'hard use' enough for the knife tasks listed in the OP.

The tasks listed are not very heavy duty and just about anything you like that's one-hand opening (the SD option) should be fine. A PM2 would easily handle all those tasks, other than the blade being pretty thick for some of those tasks.

I think the pm2 is a capable Knife I carried it for a year as my only knife. Capable of those tasks he listed but it isn't heavy duty IMO . If you think a pm2 is heavy duty than what is a benchmade adamas? The thin tip on the pm2 which makes to a great slicer make it more susceptible to damage when being used for unconventional heavy duty tasks such as prying wood fibers. Every thing is give and take it just doest have a thick enough blade to be heavy duty. YMMV
After reading his requirements again I agree the pm2 could do fine if its used only as a cutter.

Manix 2 XL. It's plenty heavy duty enough to perform all the tasks you mentioned and more. For under $100 it's one hell of a blade.

A BM Adamas is seriously heavy duty. And a ZT 561, 550, or 0801 are all a bit different, but all three are "built like tanks"
