HDR on a Dreary Day

Thanks Mike. Even the normal exposure for these the sky looked amazing. It was a crazy day with a black looking sky. This set Is actually fairly true to the original image. I was having a hard time deciding to use HDR but its too much fun.

Have you been shooting raw on these?

How many exposures? I can only auto bracket 3 on my d5000.

Yeah, Raw. 9 in a burst if I'm worried about cloud movement or the like. Mirror up if I am worried about mirror slap motion blur on longer exposures. Remote release on Bogen tripod. Some of them I batch process in lightroom before I got to Photomatix. All are in 16 bit Tiff for Photomatix. I convert to JPEG at the very end when I export from Light Room. Even with RAW I set the WB as I shoot although I find slight tweaks in LR can be a great benefit.

I really have a lot to learn on PP since I just got LR about a month or so ago and before then only slightly sharpened my pics. Now I'm just going crazy trying to learn the ropes of the PP world.

Thats basically the same workflow I follow when I'm shooting HDR.:thumbup::thumbup:

I can only autobracket 7 shots though, the GF1 doesn't really allow much flexibility with it's autobracket / exposure settings.

Grim - I have yet to explore all the types of bracketing this camera will allow. I know it has quite a few options. Right now I am just using the AE Bracketing and I have not adjusted the steps. I have a lot to learn and experiment with. Gadgets, you have got to love them :)

How do you like the GF1?

I love it, it really is an exceptionally fun camera to shoot with. It's small, rugged and outputs really good quality photos, especially for people who shoot RAW.

I don't think it could really replace a full DSLR for pro / semi pro work, but for a casual photographer it really is a treat.
