head lamp & torch with matching batteries

Joezilla. I have been using a cheap energizer headlamp that runs on three AAA's for around 5 years now. Got it at wal-mart for 12.99. It has two white LED's that are very breight and one RED led for night vision. Can't go wrong for the price.

Mymindsamob and gmarthur. Thanks for the tips guys I'm gonna look up those leads now.

I use AA's for ALL my electronic gear....

Headlamp - Zebra H50-Q5
Torch - Olight T15-Q5
GPS - Garmin ETrex
2-way radio - Panasonic
Camera - Sony

I like the fact that EVERYTHING is interchangeable.

Same here. Headlamp is a PT Apex. I have several good AA flashlights, my favorites being an Underwater Kinetics and a Fenix. My Garmin Etrex uses AAs, as does my Canon. I like packing one battery, and you can find them anywhere. Lots of other devices use AA, so scavenging them is easier than CR123s.

Check out Zebra lights @ 4sevens.com. A few of our fellow forumites use and love them. I use Fenix and Nitecore lights that use AAs and my Princeton Tec Quad Tac headlamp uses the same.

Mymind - how do you find the quad? I am wondering about getting it as a possible upgrade to my Energiser for hunting and general use.

I am particulary keen to be able to swap from red to white light reliably and easily.

I use red for walking around and not scaring animals, between scans with my rifle mounted spotlight. I use the white for general camp/travelling duties.

My energiser does this fairly well - but I suspect it can be done better.

I like the quad because you can get to red without having to cycle through white light to get there

What is your feeling?

I agree with ugly.

Here is what I did to figure this out. I simply eliminated the headlamp. I use a Fenix LD-20 and its headband attachment. Carries spare batteries on one side and the headlamp on the other. When I need the torch, one thumb screw takes off the torch from the headband.

Problem solved.

Not necessarily a combo per se, but I have this Streamlight headlamp: http://www.streamlight.com/product/product.aspx?pid=143 That I pair with a Dorcy AAA LED light.

This headlamp has the advantage of the clip setup where I can remove it from the head strap and clip it on my cap, pack, whatever.

I also have this Brunton headlamp:http://www.brunton.com/product.php?id=398 That I pair with a AA Mag-Lite.

This headlamp is a little heavier since it runs on 4AA, but I like that it has multiple settings: red light, 3 LED intensities, and flashing mode. I also got mine in camo which I really like.

I keep a little Fenix E01 on a necklace when out and about.

It runs on 1 AAA to put out 8 lumens for 20 some hours. It makes a nice backup to a headlamp, so you don't really need the handheld light when you are wearing the headlamp.

I've got my Fenix E01 on my keychain and it gets used daily. Great little light and the best $15 I've spent on lighting.
