Head spinners ?

You guys are over-thinking pin peening.
Put the pin in the knife, leave a little sticking up on each side, place on an anvil, and peen with a hammer.
Turn over and peen the other side. Clean up heads as necessary.
The only reason to pre-form a pin head is if it will be installed where it can't be peened on the knife.
Peening just takes practice.

Bill is correct. Knock the corners off the end of each side of the pin before you start preening, helps to prevent splintering, but if you have the right pin material you can peen it for an hour without problems. Not that it should take more than 30 seconds.
