i dropped my wife and older son off at the trail head this morning.. they're doing the "BIG BASIN to the sea" trail.. in BIG BASIN state park...
it's about 12 miles all together... i have done this hike literally like 30 some odd times, i used to do it once a week during the summers, when i worked at a local summer camp.... i used to take groups of inner city teenagers on backpacking trips and rock climbing trips.... those were the good ol' days... it's a great hike, fairly mellow... it is the last leg of the "SKYLINE TO THE SEA TRAIL", which is about 33 miles all together... i've done that hike about 7 times too....
we didn't think our little dude could hike the whole 10 miles to the trail camp, so him and i are going in from the opposite direction, hwy 1 on the coast.. we are hiking in about 2-3 miles and meeting them at them there... my pack is huge, i figured it didn't matter that much since it'a only a few miles...
BIG BASIN s.p. is the largest state park in CA.. it is absolutly gorgeous.. it's filled with huge old growth redwoods... it is located outside of boulder creek CA. which is about 20-30 min. away from our house.... we have been spending our thanksgivings there for the past few years...
