He has offered me a sebenza for a BM 690 I had on the trade forums. In the last 3 days he has responded under 3 different screen names.

Last night he told me he sold the seb for $300 as he had been fired and needed the money. This morning I got an email telling me he felt bad about selling it after we had a deal so he bought it back from his friend and the trade was back on.
The offer is now, when I get the seb I will mail the 690. We shall see what happens. I will keep you posted
 
This sounds WAY too familiar!

Are there any other names this guy/gal goes by that we should also be aware of?

I had an email from someone named that and we ended up not dealing because I was reluctant to ship same day to someone that I didn't know, I had asked for his forum name and he said that he lurked sometimes and had a few post in the USN, checked and he had 5 posts. So I said that I am fairly well known on several forums and if he would ship his knife, I'd have it by Wednesday and then I'd send out my knife to him. His response was that it was his only knife and didn't want to be without it, which made me wonder if he was going to use the knife I was getting until the day he shipped? Also he mentioned that if there was a problem, I have his address so the law enforcement would clear up any problems, which I replied that it doesn't work that easy, as I had one situation where I didn't get my stuff back, so I backed out of his offer, but left it that if he changed his mind and wanted to send me the knife first, I'd still be up for the trade. I ALSO emailed him back FIRST that the trade was very lopsided, his knife for my MT Kestrel, he claimed that was ok with him as he had always been wanting a Kestrel...

Folks...it was that close, as I'm about the most trusting person around, but when something sounds too good to be true? I was scrounging up something I could throw in with the knife to surprise him to even up the deal, now, very glad I didn't!

I just tried to email his address to link this thread to him but the email was returned to sender....cut that one pretty quick I'd say!
 
I had nearly the exact same experience with this guy that Gary G. had. But I'm just curious, other than the occassional vulgar rant/post, has he actually stiffed anyone in a trade? He claims his trading record is flawless, and after doing a search under some of his various screen names, I couldn't find anything to the contrary. So, has anyone dealt with him in the past?:confused:
 
Ira, is this fella who calls himself Dennis James signed up on BF with another user name or is he just emailing trade offers to people?
 
Dennis should remember that there are those that know exactly where he lives and one member of these forums that lives only 10 minutes from his door. If he does start defrauding the folks around here, he will not be too hard to find.
 
The only trade I can remember of Dennis's was with someone whoseonly posts on this forum were in relation to the that trade and the follow up good post here on the GB&U forum. As far as I am concerned that was just too darn convenient.

Anyone who trades under a false name should not be trusted, in my opinion. Besides that, just because he is such a lier, I would never trust Dennis as far as I could throw him.

By the way, my above statement should not be taken as my having problems with people that do not use their real as a user name. If these people use their real name when they do a knife deal that is all that matters. Dennis is hiding behind a fake name even when he does a trade. If something goes wrong, who do you go after? It is one thing if you know that Dennis James is actually Dennis Sweetster Jr., it is a totally different matter if you do not.

Just a quick word of advice, should you get an E-mail from a Dennis James of Silver Springs, Maryland attempting to trade a Sebenza for one of your knives you MIGHT really want to think twice.

Please accept this as simply some friendly advice from one TRUE knife lover to other TRUE knife lovers.

The person attempting and alleging to trade a "mint" Sebenza, a NIB Sebenza with box, a sebenza in 97% condition and an already traded Sebenza to a friend in a knife and sword shop that has now re-appeared and is being offered via E-mail for several trades he is finding HERE is someone not worth the crap that will follow. Trading a Sebenza for a sub $100 used production knives is a deal too good to be true, therefore it should be given special vigilance.

Right now he is just "lurking" and responding to posts via E-mail. However, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE his computer abilities!!!!!. The TWO KEYS right now that I can give you is that he uses a MAC Computer and his offers are far too good to be true.

There are others, but he is gone way beyond being Disruptive and has now stepped over that line that changes everything from "gaining attention" to "gaining our knives"

He has been warned by Spark and others here on BFC. He has been BANNED by Spark and others on BFC more times than any other person in BFC history and has been BANNED on every other knife forum. He has been given advice and counsel by the very best and kindest of this Forum and the two other major Knife forums and still chooses to ignore. He does NOT want to be a productive member of the knife world, but rather BECOME UNJUSTLY ENRICHED BY NOW ENAGING IN CONDUCT THAT IS CRIMINAL, NOT JUST DISRUPTIVE. HE HAS BEEN UNDERESTIMATED!!!!!

I have enough concrete, uncontroverted evidence that this person has used several Names for the sole purpose of sheltering his TRUE IDENTITY for the purpose of obtaining the property of another. No matter where you go, THIS IS FRAUD. This kind of DECEPTION is well defined in current Federal and State Law concerning the use of the Internet.

AND, to all we need to be ever vigilant as this guy is shown his true colors to be a genuine INTELLIGENT CRIMINAL SLIMEBAG!!!!

And to you DENNIS JAMES, JOHN PACEK, KYLE, ERIC, JASON, MARIE, ad NASEUM: PAYBACK'S a BITCH.

The answer is in the form of this question:

If this person used a name NOT legally his for the purpose of sheltering his identity, AND with a purpose to obtain property of another with a purpose to deprive that person thereof, OR
when using an identity NOT legally his DOES purport property to be something that has a value in excess of $300, and then actively engages in DECEPTION for the sole purpose of being unjustly enriched is that person a CRIMINAL?

There was this guy on a knife forum who used PAYPAL to buy a STRIDER Custom knife. What he got after transferring $300 plus bucks was a LINTON POS worth $20.00. This person is VERY UNHAPPY and IRA counts person as a TRUE life lover and therefore a friend. Are these two related?

Thanks for the heads-up, Ira. Could this by some remote chance be someone with whom we have become acquainted under different names and profiles in the recent past who seems to always be with us?
 
Sounds like a close call G2. I've read about this guy for a while now and he seems to stir things up on all knife forums. I'm hesitant to use the "T" word because I haven't had any dealings with him. Don't know why some people won't play right. Btw I really like your leather work!:D
 
The one knife I can confirm that he owns was a Sebenza. Of course if you read all his threads, he owns every knife ever made and even has a Strider GB growing outta a flower pot.

And I hope you feel really bad taking his ONLY knife!!!!

Maybe the next one will be made with a toothbrush handle:D :p :D :p :D
 
I knew there was something familiar with this DS! There is another registered at Earthlink with a similar username today. He has a damn book for his sig line.

Be careful on the trades, it looks like our TROLL has turned into a CROOK!!! Or a WANNABE CROOK!!!

Your guy just registered under user name Quiet-Storm and has the same email address as the one mentioned above.
 
This guy is nuts. There is no way to block his computer info from the forum? Maybe he needs a face to face chat?
