Many of you know, but for those who stay in this sub-forum only - over in the traditional forum the voting/planning for the annual traditional Blade Forum Club Knife is taking place. Thanks to SK Blades (Silver Knight) it looks like Buck Knives will be the 2018 choice (first time ever in that sub-forum). The voting is pretty much narrowing down to a custom Buck 301 or a custom Buck 501. You gents (and ladies if any are present) may want to amble over there and participate so to order one for your collection or pocket if you so desire. OH

All options will have full flat ground blades, too.
I think CPM-154 is the leading contender for the steel.

I'm in; thanks for the heads up. But this brings up an interesting question. How can SK do a 301 or 501 with CPM-154 and micarta scales in the $80 range when BCCI did the 301 a few years back with BG-42 and micarta handles and sold in the $100 range?

Thanks for the heads up OH. I don't stray far from here so I wouldn't have known about it otherwise.

One would have thought that Buck would have cut BCCI a better deal than SK so does the club really need to make that big of a profit on their offerings?
It could be the number of knives each entity purchased up front. DM

I went 501 as well but it seems a lot of people like the 301 for their reasons. I wish I could wrap my brain around multi blade knives, a lot of people like them. I just can’t bring myself to like or carry/use them. That barehead 501 was pretty though

I went 301 because 501's are available from the CS at a decent price already. I didn't hear about the barehead option....I might change my mind on that. I would really really like a nice stockman though. I got a 301 on the bay that was from '74 thinking that would be the ticket, but it still had weak springs even after a trip to the spa so it never gets carried. Wish I could trade that off for something.

Respectfully, I still think there is a reasonable chance the Traditionals subforum knife this year might be a GEC.

If a viable path to a GEC option can be found (work is in progress on this), then I suspect there'd be a runoff poll between the winner of the current Buck-only poll (likely to be the 301) vs. the GEC option. :)

Probably not for 2018, maybe for 2019.
From what was said in the threads, GEC's production schedule this year limits us to a #14, with minor changes from that production run (only covers and shield, for example) or an undisclosed existing pattern "that did not sell well" the last time there was a run of it. The GEC would have 1095 blade(s) and a lot of interest has been expressed for stainless, and more than a few complaints that GEC is discontinuing the use of stainless.

SK Blades is a supporting dealer, that is ready, willing, and able to work with us (and has worked with us) can handle the order, payments, and shipping both here and to members "across the pond". Keep in mind, one of Spark's requirements is that the Forum Knife has to be non-profit, unless his knife store is handling the sales.
The fact that SK Blades is excited about being involved in a Buck Forum Knife says a lot about them and their dedication to the folks here at the forums.
Also, SK Blades has already received the blessings of Spark to use the Blade Forums name on the 2018 knife. Without that, there is no "Blade Forums" knife.
