Just a heads up...I have been behind on reviews because of the laptop crash, etc., etc.

--video of my tactical deployment and use of an M-4 rifle with the W.A.S.P. pack by OFAGEAR.com under simulated combat-contact conditions

--new TOPS blades that I love, called the MIL-SPIE (MILitary - Special Projects Individual Equipment). An excellent all-around blade for both bushcraft and general abuse.

--a review of a great new field sharpener, also by OFAGEAR.com (keep an eye on them -- they are developing much great gear via their realistic courses -- these guys are hardcore into training!) OFA stands for "Oregon Firearms Academy." (oregonfirearmsacademy.com)

--Spyderco Paramilitary folder in use in the NC mountains

--More on Brian Goode's outstanding passaround kitchen/wilderness blade (this has become one of my favorites -- just a sweet. sweet piece of cutting gear - everybody should own a Goode!)

--Gossman PSK doing some pretty crazy "big knife" chores (like splitting logs), and sailing through it no sweat (another one of my very favorite blades of all time)

--Ok MORE ADDED: An OUTSTANDING chopper by Richardj, the sharpest blade I ever got, and edge holding like I have never experienced. What is your secret Richard???? It cut me bad. :D

Looking forward to it Brian! I really liked the tactical steak knife reviews you did earlier in the year. I think TOPs doesn't get quite the airplay that it should around these parts.

As for me.....I just commissioned a personalized design for an outdoor knife to Mr. Breeden and hope to test and review it after the holidays.

Cant wait man. Those sound really cool.

Me? I just finished up my article on Exposure - first aid for cold and hot weather injury, it will be my first of many on Woodsmonkey. Still got to take the pics for it. Then I have a few other things in the works for woodsmonkey too.

Sounds great Jake - can't wait to read them... feel free to post an announcement thread here with a link when you have them done!

Will do man. Im really happy with the article, its a good read. Tried not to make it read like a textbook, ya know?

Man that TOPS article will be awesome, and the WASP one. I cant wait! You been on these guys long, or are they fairly new?(OFAGEAR)

Jake, OFA has been around for a long time, just quietly doing their thing, but it is outstanding stuff, and I am really impressed by the thought that goes into their designs - it's based on real-world experience, coupled with extensive testing in harsh conditions during their wilderness and tactical classes. Their wilderness classes combine hardcore tactical training with bushcraft and survival in a way that I have not seen done yet. Some have tried and fail, but OFA instructors are all for real. Some might think it's over the top, but I love their concepts and am eager to explore them to the Nth degree. Anyone in their area, I recommend you check them out for great training.

The WASP was designed as a BOB, and designed to stow an AR carbine or similar rifle in the pack almost invisibly, yet allow for very fast deployment in case of contact with bad people or animals. Many other uses, but this pack, and their classes, which also include low-visibility shelters, and other techniques revolving around the possible need to bug out on a moment's notice. Exciting stuff!

They also have the mini-WASP, designed for pistol carry, which I intend to test and evaluate, and report back to you guys here on as well.

The actual WASP review I can't publish here (only the video demonstration) due to the fact that it is going to be a feature article in a magazine near you soon. :)

Dude. I just forund a pic of the pack. Badass to the max. I cant wait to see the article, and your video.

Off to look for the mini WASP.

hey brian, thats one secret i'll never share :p:D. before i made my first knife i learned what i can and cant do with the steel i use. i still cant believe you have been tearing out drywall with it .

Sweet...I have heard many quiet murmurs about OFA. Always good stuff.

I have often thought about trying to get down to one of their training courses, because I hear a lot of good things. Interested to see things from them for sure.

Jake, does that mean you won't be posting it here? I, for one, don't go to other sites anymore.
