Well I was walking through the cemetery.....KIDDING

I picked this piece of granite up from a headstone maker, He made a mistake on the dates so it was basically scrap. I have a newer surface plate now and no longer need Gwenevere and Gunter.

The measurements are 12"x24"x3.125"thick. Weight is 105lbs

I used the front of the stone to hand finish my guard stock and anything else I wanted flat and finished to a fine grit. The lettering actually helps in the sanding kind of like a lapping plate. If you don't want to use the front the back is flat also but not polished.

I am offering this free to a good home. If you really want to ship it then you can cover the actual costs. First I'll take it can make a new home for the Walkers.

Thanks for looking

I learn something new just about everyday. Now I know a little more about the Woodchuck Man. Dude, you are a trip!

Whats wrong with a free head stone? I think it would be nice to have a big piece of free granite. I just got one though.

I actually paid for this one. But I got the surface plate for free so I figured I would pass on the savings.

I see your from Salem, I'm in Gresham/ which is 57 minutes away from you. If your ever up my way, let me know. I'm always looking for a lesson on "how to grind a blade". And by the way, I wonder why Gwenevere and Gunter died so young?

I'll take it Chuck! Can I have a play day in your shop too when I come down from Portland to get it? Lol.

Seriuosly. I'd love to have it. PM sent..

There is a HUGE black granite slab sitting on a lot near my old house. The original lot owner was a scarp buyer, and got it somewhere. The city made him clear off all the scrap metal he had stored there. He left the stone there when he sold the lot. It is unmarked, polished front and back, and about 72X48X10". It should weight about 3500 pounds, by my calculations. Years back, I talked to the new lot owner and was told I could have it if I could move it. I would need a fork lift, flat bed, and some beefy guys. It sure would make a great work table, though.

If that is a real machinists reference plate, it's worth thousands -
They can be polished if required.
Try selling it to a used equipment dealer and let them do the moving?

It is a monument type stone (headstone) for a large family plot. The front and back are polished, and the sides are left rough hewn. I think they had it in the trading post paper for years without any luck.

I might drive by one day soon and see if it is still there.
