heard much about harm caused by CF. is it carcinogenic or what?

Usually the higher-tech a substance is, the nastier its composition.

I don't like or buy CF knives for a number of reasons but were I doing some altering I'd sure be wearing a mask or respirator.

CF is toxic to breath in as is the resins used to hold it all together. Same with G10. The skin is known to absorb things like liquids if on the skin long enough. Think about being in a pool or having your hand it water for a long time and wrinkling. Thanks g10 and cf aren't liquids. Like others have said they use cf for prosthetics...and though they andlthoughre coated in and though they are heavily coated in an outer layer of resin. It's hard to say without researching and doing long studies to find what's the real cause what's more toxic...the fibers or the resin. I wouldn't expect an answer anytime soon. Carbon fiber is becoming more widely used and lots of companies have a lot of money invested in. The industry so if it is toxic I would expect anyone to say anything. Think of asbestos and how toxic that material was. They suppressed that information for decades. But my guess would be it's the resins used that make cf and g10 toxic

Pretty sure it's more a case of carbon fibers and fiberglass fibers getting stuck in the lungs.
Fiberglass may contribute to lung cancer...people are still arguing about it.

Basically, any fibers getting stuck in your lungs that cannot be gotten rid of is a bad thing.

Breathing in resin particles probably ain't good either.

If you are using your knife so often your pants are eating the handle material, maybe it's time to get a fixed blade with a sheath? And if you are pulling your knife so hard you fling dust into the air you breathe, I'm pretty sure you're doing something wrong;)

nah that's just a knife i wear as a help, almost never using. there was 551-1301 before (m4 g10 black) - same thing.

i know it is nice material, lightweight etc, i like my cf knives, but health is health, you know... what is it about cf being bad to lungs or some?

There are many things that we breath in that can be harmful to our lungs like asbestos and silicone which is why you wear a respirator when grinding it. Otherwise it is harmless
