Hello everybody. I was wondering if someone could shed some light on a heat treat question I have. Now some folks will set their blade in a cool oven and do a full ramp to austizing temp. Some will set an equalizing temp place their blade in and soak before ramping to full temp. Some will do both. Now I know it may be different with some steels....but I think I have read and seen all with the steel im using right now....CPM D-2. It would seem to me that if the blade is placed in a cool oven and set for a full ramp to temp that the general thickness of the blades we use would keep up with the oven just fine...especially if the oven is slow like mine (Sugercreek kiln the large one) If you have a slow oven is it necessary to stop and soak at an equalizing temp before full temp? Whats your thoughts?

Each steel is different and it's best to start out by looking at the steel maker's suggestions.
Remember that there is some difference betweem the thicker makers tests and your thinner blade sizes.
