I had asked a ? in another thread about a "dual fuel" forge, and one of the old timers here ;) made a comment about "30 years ago". So I got to brainstorming and here is my idea. Brick construction, gas fuel with an air source to swirl the flame, vertical. The chamber would measure 3 1/8 square and 24 1/2 tall. I am planning on using this to do justice to completely and properly heat treat various types of tool steel knife blades measuring from the very small up to 1/2 thick and 2X24, so it does need to be able to hold a wide range of temp's. Here are my questions for any here that might offer advice:
What size and direction for the exhaust?
What to use for knife rest/holder/hanger?
What type of burner(s) will withstand the kind of hi temps ( I thought 1800 to 2000 F max) needed?
Will black pipe hold up for the blower source?
Any suggestions for economical AND accurate TI's ?

Sorry if this post is long winded. Any suggestions/criticism would be appreciated!
