does any one have any heat treat info for these steels and know if you need a special quench oil for them if so what oil do you need thanks chris :)

1070/1080 is a slightly hypo-eutectoiod steel, and is a good starter steel.
Austenitize at 1450-1475F, no need to soak ( but a minute or two never hurts).
Quench in fast oil (parks #50). Medium oil (AAA) will work, but fast is slightly better.
Temper at 450F for one one to two hours, cool to room temp, and repeat.

Stacy, I concur with your recipe, but this guy is obviously a beginner, and using about the easiest to Ht steel I know of, and I agree on the Parks #50, but do you think he might do well enough with canola, or mineral oil, instead of having to spend $150.oo on the parks? I would wager that between canola, and Parks AAA, there would be very little difference. I do believe that Parks #50 would make a difference, if the guy wants to put out that much loot as a beginner. Would do you think? You have more knowledge of HTing than I do.
