Heat treat oven?

1200w is under power for that oven as my quick calculation the power density is about 0.75w/cm2. It will take long time to reach 1500F.
 
For that price and what your getting if I could see it work I'd buy it in a minute. Might not be a heat treating oven but would definitely be a awesome tempering oven!!!
 
Add a programmable PID and it will work, but is limited.

It will not work for any more than smaller blades in carbon steel. It will only reliably reach 1600°F. Heat up is very slow.
 
i figured that was the case Stacy. I am going to hold out to get one more suited to knifemaking, that I can do more complex steels in. Thanks.
 
You could make it a tempering oven for smaller blades. As someone who only has 1 kiln it takes a while to cool off for tempering and would be nice to have another one.
