I have been making knives for a bit now however I have not used D2 before and any tips tricks on the heat treat would be great I just have a simple burner set up any help would be great

thanks

I heat treat D2 per Crucible steel specs; I place the blade in a HT foil packet place it in the oven and take the temp up to around 1100 let it equalize then ramp up to 1500 and equalize then ramp up to 1875 and soak for 30 minutes. Bring it out of the oven and straight between two 1 1/2 inch thick aluminum plates to quench. Then I temper for two 2 hour cycles at 450 degrees and get a tested 59-61 RC.
Do 99% of your blade sanding before heat treat, D2 is some tough stuff after it has been heat treated.

If you just have a burner setup, you might want to avoid D2 unless you plan to send it out for heat treating. I won't say you can't do it, but you won't get the potential of D2 without some pretty serious time and temperature control.
