Heat treat services

I got a call from Paul Farmer; I had wanted CruWear at 60 HRC and he called me about it. They were having some trouble getting it to the hardness I wanted (it's usually run harder), so he sent the other blades (in other steels) back to me a week or so earlier than the CruWear blades so it wouldn't hold up my order so they could get the HRC at what I wanted it.

Good to know that people are still getting good results from Paul Bos. I've been calling and emailing them for over a month with some simple questions before I send in a batch.
According to them, there's only one person there that's qualified to answer any technical questions, and she's completely unresponsive. I'll probably just send things in anyway and see how it goes. Frustrating though.

Anyone use tru-grit?

When I first started knife making nearly two years ago I sent to blades to them for heat treating. Turn around time was suppose to be 2 weeks. I’m at 1.5 years since I’ve seen them. I’m not really banking on them coming back. After a few months I figured I would just get them back whenever. It’s no longer a something I’m counting on.

They changed their protocal I belive maybe a year or so ago.... Previously, not too long ago, Paul would answer emails about technical information. He's helped me numerous times.
I'm guessing that was a bottleneck, probably and they now have others involved. So he can focus on running the heat treating

I think it was around the same time they changed their way of billing.....

I remember the first time I sent steel off.......
It came back done.
No info
No bills, no charge, nothing...... I ended up calling them, and saying that I think they forgot to Charge me?

Bos got my 43 blades yesterday, so I will see how long these take! They have changed their billing, paperwork and processes a few times recently! I used to email Paul Farner when I had questions, but now it's pretty straight forward!

I've decided that the next batch of blades will be going to Bos. All will be S90V or CPM 420V (90V) core damascus. Excited to see how this works out.

Well, after the serious lack of replies from them, I'd be happy if they did the heat treat and forgot to charge me. ;)

Just saw Bos charge my credit card on the 19th for the 43 blades I sent, $282. One of the blades was around 23" oal. It was a little over a week to get them out there. Last time, they were on their way back when I got the call for the CC info and I had them a couple days later!
