Hello everyone, I am a new knife maker and new to the forum. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have a client that wants a knife made out of 440c stainless. Can you buy this material or any other material pre heat treaded?

Grinding after hardening is common on folding knives to prevent warping but, you'll need a belt grinder with variable speed.

There are plenty of heat treat services for knife makes if you do a Google search so you can work your 440 in annealed state and send out after. Paul Bos from Buck knives is a popular choice and does a good job from what I hear.

Off to Shop talk, GKD is for discussing finished knives, not knife making. We have a separate section for that.
