Heat Treater Needed

I've one blade I'd like edge quenched and tempered. It's a blank I bought off of e-bay, supposedly Marbles. I annealed it in the fireplace (got it nice and orange) and let it cool in the ashes overnight. I do think it worked pretty well, as I was able to drill the tang without busting a drillbit. :) I then ground the blade down to where I think I wanted it and finished the blade as best I could.

Can someone suggest someone who could heat treat it for a reasonable price?

Thanks!

Do you know what kind of steel it is? That will be very important info to have for anyone with the knowledge and equipment to heat treat. Also, it will help you narrow down your options.

Well if you have annealed the steel it will need to be heat treated and temper all over again. The sad thing about it is that it will probably warp due to the thinness of the steel. That was a bad idea. But that's how one learns, and some the hard way. Sorry but that's how it is. -------------:)

Absolutely no idea what steel it is ... I'm just not knowledgable in that area.

The sparks were orange in nature -- if that makes any sense

I'd like to take my chances on having it heat treated. I'm not sure it was hardened to start, the tip wasn't finished when I bought it, hence my try at it.

If it's a newer Marbles blade it's more then likely 52100. I believe the older ones were 1095. Current Marbles were made by Camillus. Now that Camillus is gone, they are made in Pakistan and China. :barf:

I've had the blank for a few (about 4~5) years, if that makes any difference.

Any suggestions on a heat treater?

4 or 5 years could be 52100. not sure though. Not sure who to point you to for HT. Maybe someone will offer the service. Good luck

Bring it down to my shop one of these days, I am only an hour or so from you.
