heat treaters in california

does anyone know of any heat treaters in california other than paul bos he does a great job but i was wondering if there is anybody else out here. any info and links appreciated. ats-34 154-cm and all types of damascus.

RHINOKNIVES, thanks for the reply but do the heat treaters have to be specific for knives most heat treaters i have called have a 10,000 dollar minimum ok not that much but there is normally a min. charge for smaller jobs. and don't they nee to know the specs on damascus i know when i send my damascus to paul bos he always asks whos damascus it is. thanks

Out of a burning curiosity, are you looking for someone to heat treat carbon steel or just another heat treater in general?

I have seen some folks try out companies that do industrial heat treat (for stainless steel) and have usually been less than satisfied.

Mr. Bos in my opinion, would be hard to beat. One thing is that "he has a leg up" on the industrial treaters. He been knives for a very long time. You may even find someone cheaper but I'm afraid you won't find any better.

If heat treating carbon steel is your primary concern, I know of only a few folks in the country (and not in California) that do this on a regular basis. Go to the Supplier's List and look under Heat Treaters.

You might try Pacific Heat Treating. I got their name from one of my books on knife making (sorry, I can't remember the authors of the book for proper credit), I think it was "How to make knives". I have used them for 3 or 4 years on some O-1 stock removal knives, and they have done excellent work for me.
