Can anyone recommend someone in the Phoenix area to heat treat some 1095 high carbon steel blades?

Is Lakeside near Phoenix? Contact K&G at 520-537-8877. Also D'Alton Holder does heat treating there, but I don't have his number offhand.

I think I read somewhere that D'Alton only treats stainless.

It's only a mistake if you fail to learn from it!

Paul can't do oil quenched steels due to our friends at OSHA, EPA, Mothers Against Sharp Knives, and various other rabid organizations that inhabit Southern California.

To all who replied,

Thank you all very much for the information. It looks like I'll have to learn to heat treat carbon steel by myself. I've made reloading dies and such from O-1 and O-6 and hardened them by spinning them in a drill press, heating with a torch, and quenching them in a bucket of oil directly under the part.

I just read your post RE: Heat treating in Phx. AZ I am a new maker knifemaker myself and belong to the Arizona Knife Collectors Association. I will be glad to check with some of the other members and see who they use. I have contacted Paul Bos RE:this same question. He recommended I get in touch with howard@mvforge.com this is his Email address. Since Paul is the best in the Biz. take this as good advice. If you must have a local guy Email me at pamhankins@uswest.com give me a way to contact you.
