Having some problems heat treating SAE 1095 material, .058 thick. I have 2 parts that are quite small:
2.12 OD x 1.130 ID and 2.88 OD x 1.50 ID.
Right now I heat treat in a 1550° furnace for 3 hours. Quench for 25 seconds in oil, no ocillation. I tried just dunking and no dwell time. I have also tried free quenching. Quench oil is 165 degrees. Parts are then cooled and degreased. For tempering I heat parts and fixtures in a 400 degree heat drawer. then put in a 700 to 720 degree oven on the fixtures. We are trying to maintain a .002 flatness and Rc 47 to 52. My problem is cracks and about 25% not flat. Suggestions?
