I have been calling a few metal shops locally to ask them to heat treat my 1095 knives and everyone is telling they may warp and make no garuntees they won't. Is this because they are not experience knife heat treaters or is this just the way with 1095? Thanks!

hi... any steel can warp, depends on alot of factors. You have a window of time to straighten the blades after quinch if they do warp. My question is why dont you just heat treat them yourself? You will find more folks willing to help you on this site than about anywhere in the World. Will also have a great degree of pride in doing it yourself.

Part of the problem is that they don't know what you've done with the part. Even if the steel conditions are ideal, if you grind uneven, especially when very thin, the part may warp. They are just covering themselves, for most shops oil/water hardening steels won't be worth the trouble because of this.
