anyone have a decent recipe that they are willing to share for good ole 12c27? I have a bunch of it in the garage and an even heat oven just itching to try it out. I primarily use it for military knives so I am aiming for toughness at a premium and edge holding second.

thanks in advance

Yea, I keep hearing AEB-L is the same as 12C26, or very similar to 12C27, all based on components of the alloy. Not sure if how they are blended makes any difference in the final product. Sure does in a cake :D

13C26 is almost the same as AEB-L. 12C27 has slightly less carbon and is known for being tougher but not able to get as hard. I am pretty sure that many of the stainless Mora knives are 12C27.

They are very similar with the advantage in edge holding going to 13c and the toughness advantage going to 12c27 and that's what I was trying to take advantage of. Most of these knives are going to army buddies of mine and I want the HT to be as good as it can so was wondering if anyone had any tips. Thanks Ken, I have read the sandvik site and am planning that as a base HT if nobody has any "tweaks" to get more out of it. I do plan on sub zero quenching and have just got two 1 1/2" thick blocks of aluminum so I'm hoping to get a good response with it even if I stick with the manufacturers recipe.
