Heat treating 5160?

The short answer is no. 1095 is very different than 5160. You'd do well to read the stickies, especially "working with three steels" which explains the differences in extreme detail.

Thanks for the replies.I will start my first blade out of 5160 this weekend.I started with old files.I still have some old ones from Chicago Foundry.Went to 1095.Have been using D2 for the past year.I have decided to go back to 1095 and try 5160.I have heard a lot about 5160 and 1095 is what our grandfathers carried.
