I am in the process of making my own knife from some ats34 steel i ordered from texasknife.com I was wondering if it was possible to heat treat the steel at home without expensive equipment. If so whats the best process for a small sheath knife about 8'' long and 3/16'' thick? Any help would be appreciated this is my first knife.

No, that's a high tech steel and requires close control of temperature and time and a thorough understandin of HT.

You are going to need 1950-1975 for a controlled 30-40 min soak, plate quench, and then
dry ice and alcohol, or LN to get the most out of it. Then do the draws. Mete is right on no
simple way, Peters, Bos, or TKS. should all be able to do a good job.
Ken.
